Just bought a Whistler Pro 78SE for about $170. The V1 and Escorts are great but were a little more than I liked to spend. All but one Escort Redline can be detected with a detector. The 78SE has been great so far. There have been a few times where I've seen it work a few miles away and quite far around a few turns and hills. I've hardwired it in one vehicle and need to find where in the other.

I bought mine from the site below. Shipping was free and fast.

I was actually getting ready to post something but I saw this thread. For the question I was going to ask, anyone have any suggestions on hiding a detector? Like I said, it's hardwired in one vehicle and is not very obvious but the other vehicle I'm trying to find a good spot. When I'm by myself, the headrest with a jacket over the back works well. When the wife's in the car, her scarf works well too. But once it gets warmer, I'll need to find something else.

Redline doesn't even come close to anything I have ever seen! Its range is so far, it isn't even a fair contest.

If you have a straight cord, you might wire it directly to the battery or fuse box. Be careful to select a proper slot since tapping into the wrong spot can have negative consequences. But, you could certainly run the cord up the column to the left of the dash in order to put it on the visor. Then, if you car is equipped with tinting on the top section of the windshield, nobody could see it.

I am glad you found a nice unit, but I will stick with Red Line. At present, I have a Beltronics Vector 995. I love it.

With radar and laser positioning worked down to a science these days there is no such thing as a "good" detector. All they're good for is telling you you're in the beam and about to become tonight's feature on Speeders. Go light on the gas pedal and save yourself an expensive ticket, the money will go well to a scanner so you can listen to the OTHER guy getting pulled over.

Sounds like something a left lane camper might say.

Your thinking about radar detector for laser. Thats when if they go off you might as well pull over (they have laser jammers for that). Most of the time a good radar detector can save you from radar, if you pay attention. The one time they may still get you is if they are running instant on.

You can still get pulled over for speeding without the use of radar. If an officer sees that you are blatently speeding, you're done. It's called Visual Speed Estimation.

Thumbs Up, Beltronics Vector 995

Anyone have any advice on a good detector? I have been looking at the Beltronics Vector 995,
it sells for around $290, and seems very promising in all available reviews.

Anyone have any experience with this unit, or know of a better one (in this price range)

Thanks!

If you did not know this, Beltronics & Escort/Passport are made by the same people.

I have owned my Beltronics Vector 995 for many years. It still knocks em dead. However, the price you are paying is pretty high. I paid $205 for mine, but it was on Ebay. I was lucky because some people have been ripped off.

If I were buying a new unit, I would likely buy a Redline model. It has a very sensitive antenna & long range.

I have repeatedly dropped my 995, but it still works quite well.

NO buddy! Actually its called Vascar! And he can't just look and say hes speeding. He would still have to clock with radar, laser, or a stopwatch.

I wouldn't buy on ebay. One guy who bought his had problem with it and escort won't take it back because the ebay seller was an unauthorized seller.

A dozen+ years ago, the pilots for a hot air balloon crew I was on, had a radar detector that had the antenna behind the grill of their Suburban, and the body mounted on a bracket under the dash, under or just to the left of the steering column, out of sight. I have no idea what the make and model was. Do any of the manufacturers make these two-piece units anymore?
And how common is the use of the SWS hazard alert around the country for railroad crossings, construction zones, ambulances/fire trucks running hot, etc? (And wasn't there two competing systems? SWS and a second one?)

Never had much luck with SWS with my detector. keep in mind that the railroad and emergency vehicles need to be equipped with that and I don't think many are. I sold mine on eBay. It just kept going off driving me nuts (literally) because of the radar they use on traffic light poles.

Any idea why when you sign up for the Radardetector.net forum they make you agree to never talk about K40 electronics?

Who knows but thanks for the lead they sound like great detectors and new to me...

Try a Beltronics STiR for remote mount capabilities.

Not very common at all.
