Port Blocking/Un-blocking

The following message is from Steve, I'm relaying it to this forum - Steve is having a problem with his router blocking ports and preventing him from streaming his own feed. Can anyone assist him with this ?

I am on adelphia broadband internet. I have a router and of course two
computers. I cannot host my own feed. .. Or can I ?And if so can
someone please please help me!? I am running Mac OS X system 10.3.5

It may not be his router. Most cable ISPs block most popular streaming/server ports, and there is nothing he will be able to do about that.

Usually setting the stream to run on port 80, which is the port that web servers normally use, should work. Because web pages need to be accessed through firewalls the stream makes it through as well.

Then he needs to host it on a non-standard port that is not being blocked.

Like 123.123.123.123:55555, for example.

Ask him if he has talk to Linksys Tech Support? If he hasnt
might wanna talk to them about whats going on

He also needs to add an exception to OS X's firewall to open that port for incoming traffic. Sys Preferences > Sharing > Firewall > New. Set the port name to other and then enter the port number or range. ALSO he needs to go into the router setup and enable port forwarding to point the port he wants to whatever the IP address of the Mac is.
