I was lookin and the 996xt.. I guess that one does the Analog and Digital? Have to read more. Read on here about Phase 2, but also read the frequencies and it says phase 1. Thinking picking up an older digital to play with. 15X has impressed me.. Super easy copy and paste using free scan. Trunking made easy.

darn it

Need help with mscomm programming. I down loaded the file from Radio Ref and them uploaded it to the BCD996xt I just got. Thought it would be just a matter if uploading it to the scanner, but I'm not receiving anything. Can anyone help?

If you used freescan make sure to set the system type to P25 not Motorola/P25

Got it

Thanks!
My pc is on the floor and with the short programming cable the scanner was on the floor in a corner behind a solid desk. Once I moved it up on the desk I started receiving.

My father (Cape Elizabeth fire chief) just called me and said he hasn't heard anything out of the Motorola system since yesterday on either of his 996p2's so I would say they've switched to the p25 system. Can anyone confirm?

In Portland and S Portland on business past couple of days. All incident traffic for both cities still on analog system. Driving around the area the P25 control channel doesn't seem as strong as the analog; this may be because the P25 might not be active on all sites yet. No voice activity on the P25 system while I was listening.

A lot of traffic Monday and Tuesday between radio technicians and units at various locations in the city. They were identifying the different towers they were using and the location of the receiving units. Reception was very good here in Westbrook.

"Lookout Point"

Does anyone know where "Lookout Point" is? Presumably in Multnomah County since the Portland Public Safety System lists the East Simulcast as having a tower there... A google search did not yield any answers to this...

Only because you mentioned multnomah county I just wanted to make sure you knew this is for portland, maine's upgrade not portland Oregon. I had no luck finding lookout point in portland maine either though.

Nothing in Maine

You might be better off asking in the Oregon Thread.

BTW - google tells me

45°29'02.43" N 122°07'42.31" W

So I noticed RR for maine is saying that PPD will be using Phase 2 P25. I'm being told that it is only going to be Phase 1. Going to start the change over with DPW soon first and then migrate up.

Just about all new P25 systems are Phase 2 capable. I'm guessing the talkgroups will be Phase 1 to save money plus be able to use some of the existing radios that are compatible.

If you read this snap shot from the "Public safety Communications System Migration and Replacement Report" it reaffirms points that I and others have made for it to be more than likely phase 1.
