Slight sidetrack -

My Unitracker v1 seems to have decided to not listen to my scanner anymore (BCD996XT). I've been fighting with it for a couple months to get it to work. I gave up and decided to see if V2.01 would be any better. Seems it only looks for SDR dongles. Any recommendations for similar software to monitor the system?

Hi, Wil

I have encountered this problem just as you have.
It appears that my PL2303 is too old, out of date and not supported.
It is much like me.

I am unable to program my BCD996XT with my new PC.

I now just use the radio for monitoring the PPSTN.

I just had to move on and get an RTL-SDR dongle.

Wil, it's time for you to do as I did and upgrade.

Hi. to all

I thought that I should share a “little” of what I have been seeing and hearing so far this month.

June 4th, 5:00 pm to 5:23 pm, a manhunt on FNR #103, west of Shellbrook.
RIDs on talk-group 46=TAC 2:
2211223 ERT
2214976 and 2214974 are PA units.
2214762 WEST PA unit.
2211215 ERT Commander.
2212716 CIRT
2214972 and 2214980 PA units.
2212717 CIRT
2212720 CIRT
2212723 CIRT
2212729 CIRT ALPHA 5.
2211220 ERT

June 5th,
I know that all of you are aware or the events that took place in Niverville Manitoba on June 5th and then the arrest of D.F. Burling near Springside Saskatchewan later that same day.

I was off from work on June 5th and there were lots to see and hear starting at 10:25 am. I could see RCMP CIRT/ERT members were active in this area with lots of channel grants on talk-group 46=TAC#2. The talk-group #46 was TAC#3, but it is now TAC#2, confirmed by voice.

At 10:39 am a Regroup (patch) TG ID 2030 was established with Subgroup IDs 46 and 6225 PRT 1.

Yes, the talk-group ID 6225 is the new PRT 1. Just after 11:00 am I could see the Province’s Motorola radios were responding to the Harris A4 Regroup command messages, as SHP and SE-CO RIDs were on TG 2030 communicating with RCMP RIDs. Encryption Key ID was 37, method AES. This being the first time I had seen this happen.

The suspect had a room at the Esterhazy hotel and then travelled west to the Dubuc area and then south into the Ochapowace FNR#71, and then returned to Esterhazy, then north to Churchbridge, then north-east to Saltcoats, then to Yorkton (all around in the city), and then toward Springside where the arrest was made at about 1:30 pm. The suspect vehicle was a rental unit, a silver Mitsubishi.

RID information:

RID 2219001 to 2219010=DOCC
RID 2219015=MOSS Unit =Member Operational Support Services.
RID 2219011=CICC=Critical Incident Command Centre. Ronda B was in command of the operation.
All of the recommendations made in the MacNeil Report have been fully implemented and were utilized for this operation.

RID 2211544 RCMP aircraft MPW (is not MPE) and RID 2213950 SPS Air-1, were both in use.

RCMP/SHP/SE-CO/RPS/FHPS, ground units: A175, A179, A180, A472, A473, A440, A445, A448, A236, A238, A239, B629, HU3343, HU3369, CO0329, CO0339, CO0436, A148, C811, M250, M361, A236, E215, A230, K100, C703, C711, C830, B462, A757, A759, B134, E201, Yorkton city 62, 64, and RPS M458. Members from all the surrounding detachments were monitoring the action and ready to move out if requested to do so.

I will not be sharing any of the 60 plus minutes of audio recordings that were captured, and I will not share any “sensitive” information about this operation here or in any other place.

I will share some screen shots with all of you, but I will not be sharing any screen shots taken from about 12:20 pm until 2:00 pm, as they may be considered, “sensitive” in nature. I will not be sharing any details with regard to how the RCMP was able to locate and then track the suspect.

You will see that some RIDs in the screen shots have not been labelled, or relabeled as they may be considered “sensitive” in nature.

The list of 64 RCMP RIDS (221####) on Regroup 2030.

Got the RTL-SDR blog V4. SDR# finds the dongle, DSD+ (free) I can get see decode info, but it dosen't seem to display anything useful. I've had no luck getting it to work with Unitrunker, original or update. I'll keep trying to figure this out.

I'm here a lot
DSD+ free version isn't very useful anymore. It would be worth your while to purchase the Fast Lane version. A night and day difference with the data captures and scanning capabilities.

Hi to all.

Just thought to share what I have been seeing.
Every evening after work I will always have a look at my PCs running Unitrunker.
The first thing that got my attention was seeing the CICC at 12:11 pm.
I then started to look for an RCMP report and that is next.

At around noon on June 20 White Butte RCMP received a report of an impaired driver
at the intersection of Highway #1 and the Highway #662 overpass near Balgonie.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot. The suspect vehicle then rammed
the PC twice, head on and fled. RCMP officers then pursued the suspect vehicle
westbound on Highway 46 towards Pilot Butte.

A tire deflation device was then used at the junction of Highway #46 and Highway
#362 to flatten the tires of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then came to
a stop. Two adult females and an adult male were arrested at the scene.
RPS Combined Traffic Service assisted.

RIDs on TG 10 all start with 221####.
12:11 pm A594=1004 Grants
12:11 pm CICC=9011 Grants, Critical Incident Command Centre.
12:12 pm RPS-CTS unit=1050 Grants
12:12 pm C401=1030 Grants
12:12 pm A595=1005 Grants
12:15 pm DOCC=9006 Grant
12:16 pm C823=6448 Grants
12:17 pm A591=1001 Grants
12:18 pm, it appeared to end.

Later that evening I could see TAC-2 was in use along with the PA TG 70.
It was time to look for another police report and that is next.

Around 3:45 pm on Thursday June 20 Prince Albert RCMP received a report that a
person driving an SUV, traveling northbound on Highway #11, the suspect appeared
to have pointed a firearm at another vehicle.

RCMP officers located the suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over, but it
sped off, evading police multiple times.
The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned in a heavily treed area south
of Macdowall, east of Highway #11.
Prince Albert RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP CIRT, PDS and other specialized
units have been searching, the area to the north of the South Saskatchewan River.
The suspect has not been found.

RIDs on TAC-2=TG-46 and Prince Albert RCMP TG=70:
All RIDs start with 221####.
6:53 pm CIRT 2716 Grants (seen on site 71 2022/11/02 with 2215113 coms TAC-2 and Oct 30, 2023)
6:54 pm ERT Commander 1215 Black Sub Grants (seen March 2, pm 2024 on TAC-2 and June 4, 2024)
6:55 pm PA unit4970 Grants
6:56 pm CIRT 2720 Grants (was seen Oct 30, 2023, and June 4, 2024, on TAC-2)
6:59 pm Wakaw unit 4236 Grants
7:02 pm CIRT 2717 Grants (seen on TAC-2 June 4, 2024)
7:05 pm to 9:47 pm nothing is seen. But then.
9:48 pm Rosthern unit 4057 Grants
9:51 pm CIRT 2732 Alpha 8 Commander Grant (seen on 2022/11/02 on site 71 and Feb 8, pm 2024)
9:56 pm ERT 1228 Grants
10:02 pm ERT 1219 Grants
10:05 pm Wakaw unit 4234 Final Grant
Looks like they gave up as darkness had set in.

Cheers

An interesting one showed up using Pro96com, but not on the DSD+ Fastlane. ENC TG ID: 28672 , Talkgroup Description T:8484
Radio ID 2212915. I'm guessing by Radio ID it is tied to the Mounties.

I noticed this morning, one of the secondary CC on the Moose Jaw site is different. Fast Lane and both SDS 100 and BCD 996XT scanners have activity on 139.29 MHz, rather than 138.29. I find it a bit odd the Bearcat is catching it as its not a SDS and only has the 4 channels listed in database.

Hi, Wil

What you were seeing was unit A450 Milestone contacting the DOCC in Regina.
The status 01 message is the alert tone that is heard by the dispatcher.
It is sent as a unit RID to the FNE RID Individual call, not a group call.

Wil, I thank you for your update.

I am looking for some help from Saskatchewan RR members running "trunker programs".
Recently, I have discovered that each of the Provincial Government agencies have
their own encryption Key ID.

I am looking for the Key IDs being used on these talk-groups and other TGs.

6133 17f5 DE CSIS 1 Regina on sites 05 and 19 (RIDs 2264555 to 2264779 = 224)
6134 17f6 DE CSIS 2 Regina on site 19 and 71
6135 17f7 DE CSIS 3 Regina site 19
6136 17f8 DE CSIS 4 Saskatoon site 19
6137 17f9 DE CSIS 5 Saskatoon site 19
6142 17fe DE CSIS 6 Saskatoon site 19

In order to get the Key IDs one must run a "trunker program" on one of the site's
voice channels when one of these talk-groups is in use.

Logging must be turned on for Unitrunker to capture the data. See zip files.
The protection type=AES and the Key IDs are seen in the two files.
Please post screen shots of a "trunker program" displaying the ALG ID and Key ID.

Thank you.

I am seeing TG 6136 in use on S19 with several SUs affiliating regularly. KID 6001

ENC6136.png

Also seeing Deputy Sheriffs in Saskatoon using 6209 AES KID 0015

Has anyone seen mixed use of encryption before? TG 6235 is used for Court operations and half the users are using AES KID 6916
All the users can hear eachother so clearly the keys are in all radios... but strange.

Detention uses encryption but all other security is clear, provincial transport it in the clear but talks to detention. I found it odd that they can receive encryption but not transmit.

You will notice this on the super groups as well, command will be clear but all the units are encrypted.

Check stop in Chamberlain Thursday and Friday for Country Thunder, not hearing anything here. Storms haven't been nice to my antennas and no time to fix them. FRCC is next weekend south of Yorkton they generally have a check stop between Yorkton and the site on Thursday and Friday as well. Mobby, you should be able to monitor these checkstops. I will be at FRCC so I will be going through it.

Corman Park finally has their own TG 3009. At least they are the only ones on this TG, Ryan maybe you have seen different on 3009?

Hi to those RR members following this thread.

On Monday July 22, 2024, Pelican Narrows RCMP located and arrested
Kendell Ameech in Pelican Narrows.

Ameech is a suspect in a Saskatoon Police Service homicide investigation.

I could see RCMP TAC 2 in use from about 5:00 pm to about 6:30 pm.

Tuesday July 23, at around noon a low flying turboprop aircraft passed over
my location. With all the wildfire smoke, I could not seen it. Sounded to me
like it was going towards Regina. Unitrunker showed RID 2214358* Login and
Joins TAC 1 at 12:09 pm and again at 12:37 pm. At 12:40 pm this aircraft passed
over my location again. Then just before 1:00 pm, I could hear it go
over again. It passed over me again at about 1:40 pm when I headed out
of the area.

All channel grants on TG 164 ended at 12:40 pm. I did not get the Key ID.

At 12:39 pm the RID 2214380 Logs in on site 72. Must be a portable in the Aircraft.
At 12:47 pm the RID 2214350 Air Unit login Joins TAC 1 on site 72.
At 1:01 pm the RID 2214380 portable login Joins TAC 1 on site 71

At 1:18 pm RID 2219015 MOSS channel grants on TG 18 with M350 FHPS.
At 4:05 pm RID 2211453 F-Div Command use was seen (DATA) on site 72.
At 5:13 pm RID 2214358 Air Unit logs in on TAC 1 on site 71 and then
it logged out at 5:15 pm. I was not around to hear the aircraft.

A couple of questions for RR member wolffe in Saskatoon.
Could the RID 2214358 be the RCMP Air Services Pilatus PC-12?
Do you know what RCMP aircraft was over my location on the afternoon of the 23rd?
You may private message me if you have the answers to these two questions.

The RIDs from 2214358 to 2214380 appear to be used by RCMP Air Services.
See the two screen shots.

Just who was the RCMP looking for?
Was it a visual search in all that wildfire smoke?
Was it an Octastic device search?

Wednesday July 24, the new Dynamic Regroups were being tested again.
These tests are alway done every Wednesday morning.
See the screen shot.

Cheers.
