• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Thanks Slowmover....in the dark recesses of my mind I should have known that would work, but you brought it to the forefront. Sometimes a little bump gets the synapse to come alive, even if it's only temporary ;-). After the bump, I remember reading it.

The radio is obviously of high quality. I have all of the components to set this up properly with the amp included when I want to experiment with its capabilities.

Yes indeed. I have a Stryker SR-10A Magnetic Mount on a SUV. At the windshield brow because the entire roof is glass. Ground plane? Only good one is the hood I suspect. I was at least 10 miles away with the cities of Lansing, East Lansing, MI and most of Delhi Twp between the two units given where the other fella said he was located.
I hear wonderful things about that Stryker SR-10A magnetic mount..... how do you like it?
I also bought one and will range test it one of these days.
I watch a youtuber Erik at Far Point farms and he gets 18.5 miles out of a Tram 3500 using a 4 watt radio.... I chatted with him a few times and he told me he also has the Stryker SR-10A magnetic mount and it's much better than the Tram 3500 ...but he didn't bother to range test it..... let us know how your system does sometime.

Six month use, update:

Repeat:

These aren’t Uniden.
They aren’t re-badged Anytone.

PRESIDENT features its own design and component specification.

Next:

1). Listening to a “digital” vs “analog” (DX-959) had an “apparent” greater level of hiss that seems an audio decline. It was — in Lincoln or U-980 — as those need DSP (today, NRC) added to separate the layers.

2). The second part is an “audiophile-quality” extension speaker well-placed. DRIVER EXTREME DX-901 is that component (after the much higher priced & sized Amateur choices). Mobile, or at home, start here.

3). Weather Channel is included, in the newer Washington it isn’t.

4). Those three — in mobile — this is a base station review

(Ran out of time)

The video portion on adjustable AGC, plus on Digi-Mic makes it excellent. “Chicken-Bander Radio”, insult no longer fits.

Transmit Section gets raves.
Clarity is the game, not excess power.

You may already have a little amp. Willing to first-class the mobile wiring. Etc. Want weather channels (bypassing big truck multiplexer and/or non-stock antennas) and distinctly want this radio size + President performance over alternatives.

NRC is digital radio V.2

Don’t want the radio itself to run hot is a significant reason for this over Washington.

Thanks, 390. Great update!
