Well, China is not backing down. Not a surprise at all. They set a 125% tariff on US goods, and we responded with a 145% tariffs on theirs.

China looks long term, while the US seems to focus on the very short term. Their strategy is (most likely) that standing up to the US will cause them some pain in the short term but solidify their standing on the world stage in the long term. As I've said, the global economy ushered in a new order in the world and the US is no longer the center of it.

It should be interesting to keep tabs on the prices of CCR radios as this situation plays out, plus the plethora of other electronics and goods from China that Americans have come to depend on.

At least we should not see any price spikes on Uniden radios.

I couldn't disagree more as far as short-term and long-term vision, I think it is just the opposite of what you say but that's what makes the world go round.

Meanwhile, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam and other technology and electronic up and comers with cheap labor have been tooling up to make televisions and computers very quickly and very cheaply.

Those tariff negotiations with those up and coming technology countries will be favorable.

As far as Uniden radios going up in price, who knows, they might go up at zip.. I think you're going to see the price of electronics everywhere go up just to take advantage of the situation until the supply comes from other than China.

One of the things that could help to expand your knowledge on all of this is widen your consumption of news and not just focus on domestic USA reporting, you will be amazed how the rest of the world handles it.

For fun you might want to Google what China Imports from us, it's not a whole lot but it's stuff they don't have access to at all, a lot of it is agricultural.. up to now they got it very cheaply from us due to the unfair trade deficit, they're going to have a lot of unemployed hungry people LOL. They always have, down through the ages, but let's see how the westernized population handles it now. LOL

Apple is in a very bad situation, nfortunately they are in quite a kerfuffle putting all their eggs in one basket.

Interesting thread, let's hope for that win-win agreement between China and the United States in this International game of chicken. I think it's going to be coming, sooner than later. Take care.. Bob.

I think it will be interesting to see how many dealers up their prices despite Trump announcing that cell phones and most electronics will be exempt from tariffs.
Oh, brother...... Assuming "most electronics" includes broadcast equipment, it along with electronics (PC's, phones, etc) are among the top 5 exports we receive from China.

That is good news. I'm curious about lithium batteries for EV'S?

Seems like something changes every day.

I once heard on a radio from real news sources before things got reversed by a former president regarding propaganda aimed internally vs international... "if ya know ya know... " Tariffs have been aimed at the USA for many many years. Tariffs that no one seems to mention that we never reciprocated. Until our current leaders hit back to try to actually level the playing field. Suddenly the sky is falling? That wise voice also mentioned many times, ... "and now you know..... the rest of the story."

If you remember the Carter years that well, you're officially an old codger! Welcome to the club! 😎

Yes, I am "two ton, rabit ears antenna wrapped in aluminum foil, only 4 channels TV" old... I remember when an metal extendable "RCA/Motorola" plug antenna was it for "high gain" scanner antenna! Gas was $0.99/gallon and Radio Shack was actually a cool place to shop! And yes JC started the reversal of the anti propaganda laws, but it was BO that signed the cancelation of the 1940"s era law and made it legal for the press to lie to us without penalties... But I will save that discussion for another thread.

Did you have to hold on to the rabbit ears to add capacitance during bad weather? I remember getting the fourth channel in Houston, then the first UHF channel! That wasn't a big deal until the next UHF station came on the air; that made for a lot of clunking on the tuner.

The first TV I remember as a kid was our big Curtis Mathes. Definitely a USA product in the 60s. Leaving quality aside, were C-M to still be a US manufacturer today, would their prices on comparable units be competitive, even against a tariff-inflated Chinese TV?

LOL, yes, first lesson on human electrical capacity via conduction by hand contact of antenna... I grew up with 3, 12, 16, and 29. WAPT, WLBT, WJPT, and the public broadcast made possible by donors like you... 8 track player on an "hifi" AM/FM stereo with actual dials to tune and push button memory, in an F-150 Custom 3 speed on the column. That old Magnavox.... Don't even exist any more. Gen X rules. Now back to the usual whine without cheese. Lol.

Yes, once China joined the WTO they were exempt from the rules and they've been cheating ever since.

Let's see what happens, I kind of look at this as a reset that has been needed for a long time but nobody had the kahuni's to do it.

Now we're going to see the difference between the different retailers and vendors. The price wars for all the stuff from all over the world that we buy here on this forum, should be interesting..
Let's see who steps up and is legitimate and fair and see who the crumb bums are.

Dang, I remember us having a 4-track in the truck and the new-fangled 8-tracks coming out. Three in the tree, and a push-button that used physical force and leverage to move the needle across the dial! That's real ker-chunking! Then you have to open it up to replace the monofilament or wire that's broken from the kerchunking.

I got my introduction to Longwave from a neighbor's Citroen in the early 70s. I'm still a bit enamored with LW and below; thoughts and images of late nights hearing things most people didn't even know existed. I never bothered learning Morse, but I can still decode the letters "GLS" from the old LW beacon in Galveston.

Human capacitance, what a strange thing. Was it all capacitance, or did we actually become part of the element? Body position mattered! And sometimes touching the antenna didn't work, you had to touch the screen! 😳🤣

Let's remember to include the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 in that discussion.
