When driving, I listen to my ipod via the aux input of my car stereo.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of a connector that would allow me to also connect my scanner's headphone jack to the same input, and give priority to the scanner audio when a call comes in.

Thanks

Yea, I thought about that, but it would be a lot better if the ipod could cut out when the scanner is active.

Appreciate the suggestion though. Still looking.

You're looking for what is called an audio ducker. They are usually used in PA systems. I did a quick search, but the ones I am finding dont have the right connector and are a little on the expensive side.

There was a guy on here who made such a device. I was able to obtain one. It worked, but not well enough for me. A little to buggy for me.

IF your scanner has a COR (Carrier Operated Relay) output that is used for a remote control on/off audio recorder, you could use the scanner's COR output to control a low power 12VDC SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) Relay. The “high” audio input to the car AUX needs to be connected to the relay's switched contact. The iPod's “high” audio output needs to be connected to the relay's NC (Normally Closed) contact. The scanners “high” audio output need's to be connected to the relay's NO (Normally Open) contact. All audio grounds need to be connected together.

It may sound complicated, but actually it's not. I've used this method for years.

Thanks for all the info.

The rolls device looks like it would work, but it's a little pricey.

I like the idea of using a spdt relay, but I don't know if it would work with my scanner?...I have a pro 106 and it records with the win500 software, but doesn't have a separate output for a relay switch.

If you have any more info, I wouldn't mind soldering together a few components to build it myself.

Thanks
