Don't give up yet. Take the plunge and buy the programming cable and download WIN500. There is a 30 day free trial so you dont have to buy it. If there isn't anyone near you who can send you a file let me know what you want to listen to and I will make you a file and send it to you. That way you can look at it and see what you need to do to "MAKE IT YOUR OWN" so it will work for you. I don't live anywhere near you but I don't want you to get rid of an awesome scanner and i am wiling to help in any way i can. I have owned the Uniden BCD396XT, GRE PSR-800, and I still own the PRO-106 and 197 and none of the others handle P25 better than the 106/197's.

are all digital scanners "object oriented" ? I do not like it !!!! P25 on the 106 is terrible, are the unidens better? different format?

Unidens use what's called "Dynamic Memory Architecture", or DMA.

Some find it easier to program than "Object Oriented" prorgamming, some find it much more difficult. A lot of folks have no trouble with either.

Cumbersome

Although cumbersome, I would not trade my PSR 500 for anything. Object-oriented scanning provides more control over the parameters, including scan lists. It is a work horse. I still prefer Win500 programming. I cannot go with manual like some people. I'm much too visually-oriented & impatient. LOL.

I like you picture of the Bearcat III. I once owned a Bearcat IV with the silver front. Those were incredibly loud radios. It is also a huge speaker considering what we have today.
