Yup, i would like to know if the paint is peeling off the case as the GRE brand is famous for....

I haven't had any problems with that yet.

Me neither.

Checking various store inventories via zip code, the Radio Shack site doesn't show any available in many locations checked. Has anyone purchased from a store, or is ship to home/store the only current option, I wonder?

I went into my local Radio Shack to see if they had any in stock. No and they had no idea what I was talking about. I tried to describe the Radio and the kid looked at me like I was nuts. However he did try to sell me a Uniden HP 1. LOL

Well, GRE makes the Pro-18 and Pro-106/197 (Digital trunking scanners) for Radio Shack, but this is the first Uniden branded scanner that I've heard of in the Radio Shack store. All the other models were web only. Good to hear.

Come to my store, I'll show you one, and promise not to look at you like your nuts :D

And was it a franchise store that had the HP-1 in it???

Seems that the HP-1 is D2U only for the stores in my Region. If someone wants to fly me out to an X2-TDMA area, I'll be glad to bring the Pro-18 with me to test out ;-)

I don't know if I should mention the RS store by name but it is in Northern Virginia and is one of the better stores as far as customer service goes. Since the adjacent county is X-2, I would think they would carry the PRO-18 or at least test one out to see if P25 X-2 really works. They may sell a few if it does. Also programming Virginia State Police under the "STARS" system has been a challenge for some (to program that is) on the PRO 106/197 where programming STARS on the PRO 18 should be relatively easy (It is on the PRS 800) Lots of customers around here really want the state police and I would think the PRO 18 would be a big seller for RS.

Good to know. I would think the Pro-18 would include X2-TDMA decode, but nobody has chimed in on it yet.

We'll put you on SAM29000 right away and wait for your test results.

I suspect that the HP-1 is new to the RS inventory system and will take some time to saturate the system, just as the Pro-18 has.

Will it work on APCO P25 CQPSK Multisite system?

How does this new unit do on decoding a multisite simulcast P25 9600baud digital trunked sytem? My PRO-96 is a total 'fail' on deocoding even from one tower the multisite system causes the PRO96 to go crazy

LOL, I would but the wife won't let me. Anyways I think the easy way to tell if the PRO 18 works with X2 or TDMA is to program one of the two counties using X2 and see if it shows up in the custom trunking table or………….Assuming the PRO 18 has the same software as the GRE, one could program Loudoun Co VA or PG County MD Public Saftey, then go into the Trunked Radio System tab and open the Trunking Table in the "Custom" mode. You should be able to see if the TDMA 2 Slots are present. My guess is they are.

Sorry to be unable to figure this out for myself. Can anyone tell me if this scanner will receive the LAPD frequencies? I know that some of the other Radio Shack scanners will do so. Thanks.

It will work on the LAPD and LAFD but it may not be the best scanner for LA County since the LA County Sheriff Department operates on unique base-mobile system and it is tricky to hear both sides of the conversation. I would suggest you post on the CA forum. One of the other PRO digitals may be more suited to use in LA.

just got home with a brand new PRO-18, so far right out of the box, this thing has been anything but easy, so I guess i'll read the manual...lol
I just tried to install the iScan software that came with it and I keep getting an error msg, "ERROR LAUNCHING"....... "ERROR CODE 740"
I am running windows 7 so shouldn't have a problem.
also on my way home, I ran upon what appeared to be a woods fire, had the scanner in stalker mode and not a peep out of it.
but as I said I just got it so the jury is still out.
