I purchased a brand new 651 and 652 from Amazon a few days ago before these scanners run out.
In fairness to Amazon, the 668 that Amazon had in stock themselves and sent last weekend was indeed new and works fine. However, the 651 and 652 were sent by third-party vendors (each a different vendor) working with Amazon, both with 4.8 stars according to Amazon website.
When I received the new 652 yesterday, the box obviously had previously been opened, and guess what, there was handwriting in the manual, the antenna and hardware for the scanner bracket was missing, and the power supply cord had a nick in it. The scanner was just sitting there with no protection, no bubble wrap, no cardboard, nothing. Needless to say, not a new scanner.
Received the PRO-651 last night by UPS, did not open until just an hour ago. Guess what, it is not a PRO-651, it is a PRO-649 200-channel analog scanner. Good bargain for about $230 if it was a 651, but not for a PRO-649. I called Amazon immediately and informed them.
Obviously, I am sending back both units immediately. Amazon rep was very friendly. I informed her about RS closing and that perhaps some shenanigans were going on with the remaining scanners that are out there. The PRO-649 for the 651 could have been an honest mistake. But who knows. The obviously used 652 sold as a new unit, with missing stuff, is real BS.
Since this happened to me with two scanners from Amazon (via third-party vendors) in the last 2 days, I feel I must at least alert the RRDB community to these issues, and possible problems they may deal with.
I was up front with Amazon rep on phone, and told them my intention of letting others on this list know my experience. Amazon told me they will look into these issues. For your information only.

Interesting....A few weeks ago I found a Home Patrol 2 on Amazon for an unbelievable price of under $200! It too was fulfilled by another vendor. I suspected that perhaps it was a return or was missing a cable, card or something but I took the plunge and ordered it. Every step of the order process confirmed that I was to receive a Home Patrol 2 for the advertised price. Even the order confirmation from Amazon clearly stated that what I was ordering was what I'd be receiving. However, when it arrived, it was a Uniden Marine handheld radio. My order number printed on the packing slip was correct but the description and product number matched the Marine radio. When I contacted the fulfillment vendor I was told that an error was made (yeah) and that they were out of stock on the Home Patrol 2. Naturally I returned the radio and received a refund but it certainly revealed a chink in the Amazon/outside vendor ordering process.

The last Uniden scanner that I purchased was a Bearcat 200XLT about 25+ years ago so I had no I idea what to expect. I certainly wasn't expecting a marine radio though.

I suspect anyone can sell as a 3rd party vendor on Amazon. Just like anyone can sell on eBay.

Sounds like Amazon needs a better way to filter out the scum.
