  • If you program conventional frequencies, you will enter the frequency, assign it to a ScanList, enable the ScanList, and be able to "SCAN" to listen to it.

  • If you program talkgroups, then you are programming part of what you need in order to listen to a trunked radio system. You also need to program the tower-frequencies into the scanner as a TSYS. Details follow:

To listen to a trunked radio system (TRS), you need to first navigate to the RadioReference Database (RRDB) page that lists the information for the TRS you want to monitor.

Then you need to read down the list of towers, and find the one nearest you.
Then you need to program into your scanner a "TSYS" (the scanner manufacturer's abbreviation for Trunked Radio System (TRS)), and enter the control channel(s) into your scanner as frequencies that belong to the TSYS object in the scanner.

AFTER you have created the TSYS object in the scanner, then you can create the TG or TGRP (talkgroup) objects in your scanner.

When you create a talkgroup object, you must assign that TGRP to a TSYS. If you do not, you will get an error message and the scanner won't function properly until you resolve the error..

After you have programmed a TSYS, and programmed TRGPs and assigned then to the TSYS, then you also need to assign the TGRPs to a ScanList, and then enable the ScanList. Then you will be able to "Scan" and listen to those TGRPs.
The above information is a general summary.

For more information, please read the ETRM: Pro-651/652/106/197 - WS1040/1065 - PSR 500/600 Digital Scanner Manual.

If you want more assistance, you might also let us know which system(s) you want to monitor, and post here the link(s) to the database page(s), so someone here can give specific advice regarding that specific system.

Hope this helps,
