Pro-83 only static on all channels....

I have a new Pro-83 however when i turn it on i get static (squelch) on all channels and it keeps it from scanning. i even put it on 146.535 and keyed up my base with 50watts and it still only had static so it has only static and is not recieveing. i have turned the squelch up but to no avail. i also 2+9+HOLD reset the scanner with no change.

I would just take it back but they have no more in the state. any thoughts?

Try the NOAA weather channels. If you still get nothing, you have a bum unit and your only option is to return it. I knwo the 83 is now hard to find but better a working scanner than a dead, rare scanner.

heh, same on weather and all but i took it apart and put it back together after making sure to ground out all the current and it now works like a champ! good deal..

Pro-83 w/ cont. open squelch

I'm having the same static squelch problem on my Pro-83. By taking this unit apart and then putting it back together, should make it work like new again? I tried everything listed above with no avail. Any suggessions to make it work properly?

I've had exactly the same problem with my pro-99. Wondering if its a bad squelch pot inside the scanner. If so, how much you think it would cost to have it serviced at RS?

bad squelch pot, seems to be a problem with the rs units. I have a pro52 that the pot is bad. so far i have just replaced the pot with a restor. no adjustments doing it this way. this works till i can get to the store and find a replacement pot.
