Does anyone have, or know where I can get an LCD screen for my Pro-96? Been adjusting the contrast over the last few months, but now, no display. The scanner still works.

Thanks

I'm sure there's someone here that will know where to get spare parts but if I were you... It's called cannibalism LOL. I don't use my Pro 96 anymore but I wouldn't give it up myself, terrific radio on type II smartzone 500 megahertz systems near me, not to mention analog systems too, good luck.

He's saying "cannibalism" because that means ripping parts out of a working Pro96. There is really NO place to get "parts" for Radio Shack scanners anymore. It's a 2004 scanner. I DID see one online somewhere once when this same question came up a few years back. You might try searching the RRef search box for this issue. I think people had LINKS posted for where you could still find parts. Same for searching on-line but
who knows if it's still around?

You may want to get an LCD display from a non-functioning radio that someone will sell to you for parts only.

I guess I should have mentioned...I'm aware of the idea of getting an old one and taking the parts out of it. I looked around. Also aware of the old posts on this site. Just wondering if someone had a source these days on where to get just the screen.

Thanks

The best thing you can do is go to ebay and look for a Pro-95 scanner you can get one for around $35 or less.
This scanner uses the exact same LCD as the Pro-96. I have replaced many of them and they work perfectly.

My old 96 does the same thing.
In my case, it seems to be caused by a poor connection between the two PCB's. Simply separating them and plugging them back together again fixes the problem and contrast is restored just fine for an undetermined amount of time.

You may want to give this a shot as I've also read other posts with the same solution. It seems the connector between the boards is faulty. I've never tried cleaning mine as I don't use the radio that often but doing so may make it last longer if it's not a mechanical problem.
I mainly use my 96 for Pro96com so it can go weeks or even months with no display and I never notice.

I also found a note I'd made indicating the problem may be the more fragile ribbon cable that connects from the logic board directly to the display but I probably reseated that connection along with the two boards so the problem could be in either connector. I'd try reseating the two boards together first and if no help, then unlock the ribbon cable header and reseat that cable. One or the other should restore the display.

kruser, I thought about reseating the cable, but my assumption is that the screen itself is bad. It has been gradually fading over months , not all at once. And, I've kept it in my vehicle since it was new, many years now. Subject to temperature extremes. It is one tough scanner.

Thanks

With any display problems with the 96, the first thing to look at is the cable inside going to it. I had a couple 96's that had various missing segments or poor contrast and re-seating the cable took care of it.
