Please bare with me for a sec and see if you can help me. I seem to be having problem. I have a PRO-96 that I have been using for a year now. I just downloaded this program a week ago, I'm using a RS interface cable, hooked up to the proper port. The problem I am having is when I tune to a p25 control channel (or what I think is a P25 control channel) I know its atleast a digital channel. I press pgm func pgm pgm and press read data from radio button, but nothing happens. receive rate stays at 0%
and next to that it says (0 out of 21) or (0 out of 30) but nothing happens. I dont think I am at a P25 "control channel" is what the problem is. Does any one know of a P25 control channel in or just north of Boston, or possibly tell me what I might be doing wrong. I would really appreciate any help. This is becoming somewhat frustrating.

I looked in Suffolk / Middlesex counties in the RadioReference Database and dont' see any documented P25 trunked systems. You might be out of luck finding a control channel for one in your area.

If it lists "Motorola", "LTR" or "EDACS", then it's not going to be a P25 system. You need to monitor an actual "Project 25 Standard" system control channel.

What's the frequency you are tuning to?

I am monitoring frequencies between 150.000 and 158.000. Thats where alot of the digital frequencies are around here and I was just wondering if any were p25. But I guess not.

1. What frequency is this control channel?
2. When on this frequency, what reading do you see on bottom line of scanner display?
If it is P25 trunking, it will indicate 96:xxx yy%. Where 96 is P25 Control, xxx is SysID and yy is percent of decode rate for the Control.
If it is Motorola it will indicate M36:xxxx yy%. M:36 is Motorola Control and is always 36 regardless if digital or analog.

Frank, I suspect what he is listening to is conventional P25 traffic. What does a PRO-96 display when on a conventional P25 entry when a transmission occurs?

You're likely correct Mike, doesn't appear to be any nearby digital trunking including southern New Hampshire. P25 conventional indicates a bank tag (if programmed) on line 4. During coms it has DG upper right corner of line 1 replacing FM or other frequency mode including MO or ED. DG also appears during any digital talkgroup transmission either in Motorola or P25.

Is he maybe talking about PRO96COM software?
I'm sure he is.

This is incorrect
If it is P25 trunking, it will indicate 96:xxx yy%. Where 96 is P25 Control, xxx is SysID and yy is percent of decode rate for the Control.
as it should be xxxxx with the x's rotating between TOxxx for tower number, BEE00 for WACN and SYxxx. On a system still in development, the TOxxx may be a hex value for the number until the tower becomes active.

Frank, doesn't the PRO-96 always display hex for the tower number, in development or not? Or am I misreading your post?

I get the DG in the upper right corner when I am monitoring the N.H. Troopers but I'm getting no info on the fourth line of any of the 25 or so digital N.H. Town police or N.H. Trooper frequencies. I guess P25 is not being used. I live in Essex County Mass (just below N.H.) if anyone knows of any P25 control chanels in my 40 mile radius or around Boston please enlighten me. Thanks for all the responces guys.

I don't see any Project 25 Trunked systems in Mass or NH in the database here.

NH State and Rockingham County towns use 150 MHz conventional APCO-25 frequencies. Line 4 will display a programmed bank tag only during these coms, line 3 will display a programmed freq tag and 2 will display the frequency. DG should apprear upper right.

Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant is Motorola but may have APCO-25 coms in 451-461 MHz range. It will however, require at least one (likely two) trunking table(s) to monitor.

Seabrock Nuclear Power Plant is a Motorola II system and will not work with PRO96COM, if all he's trying to do is use PRO96COM, there is nothing close to him. THe only system I can find in MA is:
Nantucket Public Safety
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=5439
which does not seem to be online yet per the database. PRO96COM will only work with a Project 25 Standard Trunk System and not with APCO P25 voice. It only works with a 9600 bps control channel.
