Hey all... new here with a new Pro-96. I've been a casual user of analog scanners in the past.

Normally just turn it on when I hear some sirens going by or the weather is bad. But lately there has been less and less to listen to so I took the plunge and got a Pro-96.

Wow... what a difference! Seems like I have to learn a whole new language  Anyways, I got the Win96 program and have been feeling my way around... slowly but surely.

But I do have a question. Looking at the screen I can figure out most everything but what is displayed in the upper right side of the screen. It looks like a -D(up arrow)+DG. Anyone have an idea of what this means? TIA!

The DG means the scanner is recieving a digital signal. I have had my 96 for 2 weeks now and it is always busy with both conventional and trunked activity. I have bank 0 set up for mostly Kent county conventional frequiencies and the rest set up for trunked systems. When I am monitoring at home I usually turn off bank 0 and monitor everything in that bank on my Pro-95. I friend was here tonight and the 96 was picking up MSP, the 95 was picking up something in the county and the 2052 was picking up another channel in the county. They said WOW they are going all the time!!!! I said yep.....welcome to the "Wild Wild West" !!!!!

Yeah... I guess I have to figure out a scheme on what to program where. From the looks of Win96 it seems you can only have 29 Alpha Tags for Talk Groups (ID) per bank? Is that correct?

Also, is there a problem with using analog channels in the same bank as digital channels?

Should freq. be programmed in order within a bank for fastest scanning?

I guess I'm just looking or any general guidelines when programming... so much more to consider when going from a 30 channel analog scanner :)

So many questions... so little time!

30 (you forgot #0) per TG bank. There are 5 TG banks per scanner bank, or 150 TGs per scanner bank.

Analog and digital get together fine.

No order is necessary. Only program the control channels for Motorola trunks - not voice-only channels.

If programming EDACS trunks, make sure you put the frequencies in LCN order - LCN 5 in channel 5, LCN 13 in channel 13, etc.

You can have 30 tags for talk groups, they start with 0 just like the channels for each bank.

As for programing analog channels with digital channels, I have not tried that yet. I know with my Pro-95 I had conventional channels and trunked channels programed in the same bank, and it worked very well. I am still learning with the 96 and have a lot of set up to do with it. I travel to NE Ohio to visit family and always take my scanner along. I plan on setting up a couple V-Scanners different ways to see what works best when I am in Ohio. The area I visit has digital, analog trunked, and conventional systems all in the same county. I'll also take the Pro-95 along since I can listen to all the conventional and analog trunked systems. I have a feeling the digital will be pretty busy by itself
