I have a Whistler WS1065 that I am programming for a friend, I went and plugged it in, it powered up and on power says "Initializing the file system please wait" for a second or two then says "File System Initialized to defaults, press any key". If you press a key it just does the same thing again. Once in a while when you push a button it will say "GLOB EEPROM Area Initialized to Defaults. I have searched on line with suggestions of keys being stuck, checked that several times with
no luck, also saw a suggestion to try usings all keys to see if that would work, the last thing I did was to upgrade the firmware with no help there either.

Can anyone help please

Try doing a reset. Turn the scanner off. Turn the scanner on. When the welcome screen appears, press and release "0" and then press and release "1". Be aware that this will erase the working memory. Make sure that you have the programming saved.

Have you tried the 0 and 1 as soon as the initializing file screen comes up? I saw another report with the same problem. He pressed the 0 and 1 at various points in the initializing process and finally got it to work.

Here is that report:

Try the reset key sequence when you get this message: File System Initialized to defaults, press any key

Keep trying the reset key sequence at various times during the power up phase.

I had a problem similar to yours and resetting the scanner fixed it.

Try doing a firmware update. Go to whistlergroup.com. Go to Downloads. Under Scanner Downloads, select WS1040 & WS1065. Download CPUUpdater_1040_U2.9.exe. Run the Updater and see if you can load the firmware to the scanner. I forgot to ask if you have a programming cable for the scanner.

After talking with Whistler support and jumping through all the hoops, they determined that
the scanner would have to be sent back to Whistler for repair.
