Hey All.

So i've tried a few things since I last posted a while back, but still have had no gain on why my computer won't to the scanner or vice versa. I have been programming it by hand (Yes, its a royal pain) just to enjoy the hobby and listen to what I can. My FreeScan won't download or upload to the scanner. I am using a Gigaware Male Serial to usb with a M/F gender bender at the scanner end.

I have done hours upon hours of forum reading searching the links and PDFs suggested to no avail. I have attempted this action from every possible angle but its still not working.

I am running Windows 8.1 x64
The cable comes up in my Com Ports and LPT
Gigaware Driver 3.4.50.276
I have set the Baud rate in the advanced settings of the cable from the device manager to match radio @4800
Control Ch. output is Off
The Rear port is set @4800 and the front is Off
With all of this set, i go to program and at the bottom the download(from the scanner) box it says Error port could not be opened. I press download again and a pop error reads: A communications error has occurred. Check that you have selected the right come port, speed, and that no other program is using the port. Error Code 9. Would you like to copy the contents of the log to the clipboard?"
On Upload(to the radio) I get: "Error 9 Index was outside the bounds of the array." Upon pressing upload again I get a popup that reads: " Critical error, invalid response code or insufficient resources, aborting channel programming.

I was going to try and upload some pictures but RR didn't have Wheaties this AM and wouldn't let me. Ha

Any and all assistance appreciated.

Your software and the computer both need to be set to the same com port in order to have the connection to the radio work.

It sort of sounds like the com port selection has not been made. Most of the serial port communications need to be in the range of com port 1 to 4. If it is set outside this range, you out of luck of it working. It needs to be changed.

Assuming you have, but ask anyways, on the 'Upload Programming' screen, have you clicked on the right side 3/4 down in between the buttons Auto and Start Upload, the 'Comm port' button? When you do, it brings up another screen and you click in the bottom left 'Start Auto' to let freescan auto find the comm port and radio.
I have my radios and ports set 115,200 speed.
As we know at times windows will use say comm port 4 today, try it tomorrow it can be different.

Also it could be the cable itself has a problem. I had one go bad while programming, freescan slowed to a crawl and stopped sending data, replaced and it took right off perfectly.
Another fellow a couple weeks ago on here had a problem updating firmware and I mentioned about the cable and he replaced it and it worked.

Thanks for your tips

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately neither of them worked.

Jim, when I attempt your suggestion I can only select 1 and 2 due to 3 and 4 in use some where else. When I do change it to either, and go over to the software and refresh the com settings and use RonaldSki's suggestion and letting auto, it says, without even trying, cannot communicate...

When I hooked it up earlier it was on 4, when i hooked it up just now it selected 10. I don't know. Im just about ready to throw it against the wall

I do have the USB-1 cable with the drivers installed but computer doesn't wanna find it. I also have a 3rd cable straight serial to usb with the same gender bender it doesn't play nice either.

I suspect that you need a null modem with that adapter, not just a gender changer.

Yes UPMan prolly correct of course hehe, but you say you have the USB-1 cable, use that instead and use my suggestions for finding the correct com port in freescan.
