To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

New to the tk*90 series and have on order a TK-890H and have discovered the KPG-44D FS software and I'm liking the idea of the 254ch upgrade.
My question is how do I go about doing the CDF upgrade?
I have read conflicting posts about needing memory upgrade from factory and I have also read posts stating that all that is needed is the firmware update.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

It is a shame that the only place that doeas it is silverado because I live in Australia.

The CDF "upgrade" is a different firmware. If you look in the files section of the *90s series Yahoo Group, there are details.

Krokus thanks for pointing me in that direction however all seems to point back to silverado which is an uneconomical option.

KPG-44DN V2.10. It's the narrow band version. I haven't used it, so I don't know if there is an easy work around. From my experience with other Kenwood "DN" softwares, they allow wide channels where appropriate. (Amateur, WX, Marine, etc.)

Did you ever get around to setting up a Cal Fire file for your nonCDF tk790? I am just starting out as a contract water tender and have purchased a non Cal Fire version tk790 for one of my water trucks. If you have already set up the file it would save me a ton of data entry if I was able to get a copy from you. If you haven't done it yet and I get done first maybe I can save you the data entry work. Thanks.

TK-790 w/CDF Mod & Sigtronics Intercom
We're planning to wire a Sigtronics intercom system (US-67D) into a TK-790 w/CDF Mod this weekend and had planned to use the 12-pin aux terminal on the back of the remote head for simplicity. Unfortunately KPG-44 v2.02 FS doesn't allow programming the Remote AI2 pin for Ext PTT.
Has anyone made this connection with the CDF Mod? I'm curious it's possible to first program the pin with the standard software and then reprogram the Command button, etc. with the FS version. Or would Ext PTT on AI2 be lost when reprogrammed with the FS software?

Hello Ed, sorry for the delay, been on fire assignment. I never had a non-CDF 790. I have a non-CDF 690 and 890. Sorry, but I don't have any non-CDF files.
The function port I/Os are fully programmable with either flavor of software. The only catch is that if EXT PTT is set for a port other that what you want, you'll have to set the first port to none to be able to see EXT PTT on another ports pull down.
