I have a good used card to practice programming on. Do I have to put it in the scanner then program from Sentinel using supplied cable the first time the card is programed so it can pick up the scanner model/info? Thanks! :)

No... You can use a card reader if you have one... doesn't need to be done in the scanner first...
The only thing the scanner does is wright the ESN to the new card and anything you may have changed on the scanner when you shut it down...

The scanner in USB mass storage mode just becomes a very expensive card reader...

For a new "blank" card, you'll need to first use the 'clear user data' option in Sentinel. You'll also have to check the box for "display all drives" so that Sentinel will see the blank card.

The 'clear user data' creates the folders needed on the card for the database, recordings, and favorites lists, etc. Once you finish the 'clear data', then, with the card still in your reader, write your Favorites lists to the card.
