I went to look for a police call from August and man was i not happy to see almost all of my past calls gone. The program changed itself to self delete after 30 days so i lost at least a year of calls which i never wanted to lose. I am very upset one of the updates must have changed it to self delete because it was critical in a case where i wanted to save all calls that i could. It is not the first time Proscan has let me down. I wish i had a better option. I tried windows file recovery and it didn't recover the folders i needed.

Proscan has been default programmed to delete after 30 days. You saying it "changed itself" is a blatant lie.

I've used proscan for a number of years and I check my settings after each update as 85% of other people do when a new update rolls out on any program.
If proscan isn't good enough, simply program your own application for a "better option".

After the 30 day demo is over, ProScan doesn't delete itself and especially doesn't delete any data files.

Almost? Not all? So the data file is there. Do you have the 'Grid Auto Delete' option set to a certain amount of days?

{edit} Also I don't know how you can determine 'almost' if ProScan deleted itself? Did you reinstall ProScan? At most, you will get a popup saying the 30 day demo has expired.

{edit 2}
updates must have changed it to self delete
Negative, I would have heard from many on this issue if that's the case.

That is why I move or copy any files I want to keep long term out of the directory any program or game keeps them in to a separate folder that the program has no control over. Learn to do this the hard way after losing some files.
Thanks
I actually did that before but i think it was before the date i needed and now i'm looking through my drives to see if i can find it. I might have accidentally deleted it but it is ridiculous that Proscan would do that. Once a update stopped it from recording which also made me miss a call i needed and Proscan said it wouldn't do that. Hopefully my lawyer can get the fake call placed against me on August 27 that i just found out about today.

That doesn't make sense.

The last update was 7/24/24, Over 3 months ago. You're bringing it up just now?

I have many many thousands of users using ProScan and an average of 90 people using the fully functional demo/trial and I never heard of this kind of problem before, I think you're trolling. Why didn't you submit a Bug Report and receive the 750.00 USD Bug Finder Rewards?

I paid for my license and i brought up the issue about the recording stopping after a update but they denied it was a bug so i didn't get any money. All i know is that i had many many months of files on it like from when i first installed it and today i checked and it was almost all gone so i checked the options and it was set to self delete. I am no troll. I am 69 and been using computers since the early days and i sure didn't change it to self delete. I just assumed it did that with a update. I sure didn't notice is before today and i was shocked to see it today. There is lots of space on my nvme drive too. I sure would not have changed it to delete files.

I misunderstood one thing. When I saw 'The program changed itself to self delete after 30 days' I was thinking you were using the 30 day demo. Sorry about that.

ProScan probably was installed in another folder when updating ProScan. That would cause the existing config not found so the default config was used. The 'Grid Auto Delete' default is 30 days.

Try turning off the 'Check For Newest Version ...' if you don't want recordings to be lost. Last I checked, that wasn't causing an issue.

I've been a user of ProScan software for longer than I could possibly remember...very early days. I've made it a point over the course of all that time to upgrade to each and every new release. I have never, ever, had fundamental settings such as auto-delete change or default to a different value after any version upgrade. There are thousands of users of the software, and so if there were a bug that significant, it would've been reported many times over by many angry users.

Something else is going on here.

Not only did it delete files, it overwrote them so even most of the files from September can't be recovered. I have no clue why Proscan would overwrite files when there is plenty of room on the drive. It seems crazy to me.

It was installed in the proscan folder on the C drive of my laptop which runs 24 hours a day. That is where it would have been updated from. I guess it must have got changed to the default settings somehow but i didn't have to add my SDS200 again so i have no idea what happened but i sure didn't notice it before when i had to copy files out of it quite a few times after 8-27-24. I wish i did or i would have changed the setting. I had files from when i first registered it and now they are gone. The cops around me have to be really forced to cooperate with lawyers but i think a judge has a investigation of corruption going on so hopefully they can get the details of the call.

If these options are unchecked then that would cause it. They are checked by default.
