I listened/recorded a few days of traffic on 3777.
Something called "SOC" communicating to what is apparently on-train security people.
Best guess Security Operations Center?
Saw this:

I am shocked. SPD is in the clear I would think everyone else would be…
They are for now. Rumor is they will start encryption after the transition is complete. A local PD commander friend said they were told it's going to happen. I asked him if all talkgroups will be encrypted or just sensitive talkgroups and he wasn't sure.
Pierce county has the primary dispatch in the clear but tacticle channels are encrypted. Hopefully if they do encrypt they will use that model.

Search these local forums for encryption and you will see it mentioned.

Hey all I just purchased a BCD996P2 along with ARC pro software. I’m in Auburn Wa trying to get PSERN loaded. Is the new P25 system one frequency trunk or standard? Do I select all sites and frequencies or just the one closest to me? Also with the ARC software I’m under the impression that I should be able to just plug in USB cable from scanner to PC, download frequencies from RR and be good. I’ve been using a RS Pro-2050 which I have mastered trunking programming manually. Appreciate any help. Thanks 😊

I sure hope to the highest heaven that only sensitive TGs use the E-word. I do t think I’d keep my scanner for fire, honestly.

That's crazy, who stated that Fire going dark? There no reason for fire to need to go dark on there channel's. Sure a lot Rumor's, but no info to back it up.

That doesn't make a lot sense.
It does to those of us on the radio. We can do our jobs better without having to censor information or change channels to keep scannerland from listening in on something sensitive. This is a time saver knowing everything is secure. No worries.

I been in radio hobby and programming 2 way radio's for over 20 years. I have seen every comment about why, depts are going encrypted, but not one reason makes any sense. If its hard to switch to encrypted channel to give sensitive info, then sounds like training on how to use the radio is in order.

I'm the guy on the radio. Not having to switch channels to mask sensitive info makes our jobs easier. Critical patient information is faster disseminated when we aren't having to worry about nefarious scanner listeners. It makes our jobs easier knowing we can communicate in privacy without having to pull the radio out, change knobs to a tac channel and other crew on the channel miss out because we switched. Staying encrypted is for all our benefit, not for scannerland.
