Maybe that's just when Scanner Master gets theirs because they became a dealer later than the others? Pure speculation of course.

Except the 500 page on their site says it will be available "Late October"...

PSR-300 to be released on December 17th.

Contacted Universal, and they said it would arrive on December 17th.... Just in the nick of time for it to arrive before Christmas..

If this scanner is not digital then for what possible reason whatsoever did they include 700 MHz coverage? I don't think it would be too much fun to just sit there and listen to unitelligible tones.

Probably because if they didn't include it there would be a loud chorus of complaints from RR users (who may not know that 700 MHz will be mostly, if not all P25) screaming "WHY DIDN'T THEY PUT 700 MHz COVERAGE IN THE PSR-300?"

That, and analog is permitted as a secondary mode in the 700 band.

i got one and i love it sounds good loud and clear . the volume knob is smaller than the squelch knob so there no turning 2 at a time. seems like it picks up freqs better than the 97 alot quicker .

Does it feel light /empty like the 97 or have a good solid feel to it? About the sound, does it have a lot of hiss like the 97 does? PL/DPL instant decode regardless or its either or depending on whether you have it on pl/dpl mode. The Uniden 898 for example, gives you either or as long as you are in tone search mode. The 97 gives you pl if you are in pl mode or dpl only if you are in that mode only as well.

So you have to be either in PL mode to get a pl tone or in dpl mode to get a tone during tone search....Hmmmm. Too bad. I was hoping they would change that. The rest of it sounds good so far. Good audio and good sensitivity. So far so good. Keep the information coming.

Oh yes!

So then its instant decode for both as long as you are in tone search mode! YES!!!!!!
Tell me more tell me more. Does it handle intermod well or is that not a problem in your area?

By the way, this is the same radio as the PRO-164 now being sold by Radio Shack (at $20 more, minus an AC adapter).

Someone needs to clarify this!

How can it be the same radio?
The 164 is just another Pro-97 repackaged. I went through the owners manuals for both. They are identical. UPDATE:
Well, I just went through the manuals of the 164 and the 300 and they too are identical in specifications. Yes the 300 has a few different bells and whistles but electronics are the exact same in each radio. I mean EXACTLY the same. Do a side by side comparison of all 3 radio spec sheets from the manuals. UNBELIEVEABLE. Nothing more than repackaging with a few extras, thats it. What the heck is going here?

That's nothing new. That's the way its been whenever Uniden or GRE makes scanners for Radio Shack. They removed and/or add some features to differentiate "a little bit" from each other and then put a different model number.

Im starting to see that!
Thats too bad! Thats such a shame that GRE made such a crappy scanner in the pro-97 and that they chose not to truly upgrade their product now that its under their name. Oh Well! Im sticking with Uniden unless GRE gets its act together. I cant believe that the only thing they put money and technology into is their $500 pieces. To hell with the rest of us poor folks then who wont put out the big bucks.

Dude, what are you talking about,...

A). It's called OEM, why is that too bad? It's just a rebranding..

B). There's a lot different about the PSR-300 and the old Pro-97.

C). You're in a small boat all by yourself if you believe the Pro-97 was a crappy scanner. Probably about 75% of the users on this website own one..
