• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yikes, basically a kill-switch! I plan to defer away from that series if that is the case. Do not want to purchase something just to find out it got killed because of my lack of knowledge on the workings of the radio. I am sure, it must be a royal pain to get the device unblocked.
One also doesn't want to interfere with those radio systems with an unauthorized transceiver trespassing on a government network, which is what happens when one incorrectly programs said radio using cloned IDs, bad information on the Internet, etc. These devices are designed to be programmed by those properly trained and experienced to do so, and incorrect methods can cause the radio to do things that can not only interfere with the system, but jeopardize the safety of legitimate, authorized users.

The legal ramifications can also lead to life changing consequences. Yes, it's that serious. Like a broken record begging to be changed, it's been mentioned that one should purchase a scanner, or Unication G series pager, if their only requirements is to monitor. These devices do not contain transmitters and therefore, will NEVER cause ANY interference to ANY system. Furthermore, no one has ever been arrested or charged with a crime for programming a scanner or receiver. The same cannot be said for those who program unauthorized trunking subscriber radios.

If one needs an actual subscriber for authorized use, than one should be in contact with those who manage the system(s) in use, and go through those channels to obtain/purchase one as well as getting said radio properly programmed and provisioned onto the respective system(s).

Will a Unication G4 monitor local law enforcement or is it only for EMS?

Thx!

You can monitor anything on a P25 Phase 1 or Phase 2 trunked 7-800 system that is not encrypted. They are designed to be a Fire/EMS pager, but work great as a receiver. I believe you can scan up to 64 talkgroups in one zone on them. Just be aware, they are not "scanners" so they lack scanner like features, but you can pretty much program to your liking to achieve what you want. The software is free, and the cable is included.
