Kinda off topic but looking for help. Programmed the Putnam system into my SDS200 which has stock base antenna and it's not picking up any traffic at all. Picking up MTA system and Westchester System no problem. Not sure what the problem is and if anyone experienced this problem.
No one is going to be able to give you any helpful advise unless we know exactly where the scanner is located. For all we know, you're in central Westchester trying to pull the Putnam system in using the inefficient back of set telescoping antenna in the basement. Also keep in mind that those telescoping antennas require a bit of fiddling with to "tune" them to the optimal length for the primary band you're trying to receive, so fully extending it might not be the best idea for 769-775 MHz.

Manually tune the scanner to the control channel and see if you're receiving any signal at all. If not, then you're certainly not going to pick up any traffic.

Just to keep in mind, these p25 systems, especially on the 7/800 band tend to be very confined to their usage area and you can't expect great distances outside of their intended usage area. The days of countywide public service being on low band or VHF throwing out a few hundred watts and hearing them from 2-3 counties away are more of a thing of yesterday. I use a Unication to monitor Putnam p25 and have noticed once I get south of Millwood, Briarcliff etc, Putnam's system starts to drop out. As a kid in Orange County NY, I used to enjoy hearing DX Public Service activity from Massachusetts, NJ and Pennsylvania. Now you're lucky to hear the adjoining county just because of the characteristics of the 7/800 band

I have a question that's a little of topic. Since Putnam switched to a P25 system the audio is a little low and slightly garbled. Is anyone else having this problem? I am using a sds-200 and a 996p2. Is there anything in the settings that I can tweak to make it clearer.
