Question about PL and trunking.

Does the PL help with the reception? I just got myself a pro 2055, so all this is new to me. Does the CTCSS another name for PL? What exactly does this PL do? I did notice that I was getting taxi cabs on a Freq until i plugged in the PL.

Trunking..Im going to read the trunking carefully in the manual and here on the boards, but I notice that there will be a list of FREQ for a specific agency ex,,860.0000 860.0020 861.9000 etc a list with some marked in red or blue as (primary) which one do i plug into the scanner?

I copied and pasted the following as an example because i have no idea how to plus this into the radio....thanks for the help )

CTCSS/PL are tones you put into a frequency to listen to one person on a frequency, for instance, one of your frequencies you have in your list may have a Taxi on the frequency and also a plumber, if you put the frequency and tone in for the Taxi then you won't also hear the Plumber too.

Well, trunk programming MUST be done in trunked mode so read your scanner manual on how to get the receiver in the trunked mode,then enter the frequencies in red AND blue since these represent the control channels for that system.the system you used as an example recently merged into the nyc doitt system so enter all of those red and blue frequencies. You can also program the specific talkgroups you want to hear or just keep the system in open mode to hear ALL voice traffic. Good luck and hope this helps!!

BTW, that listing for NYC-EMS trunked is old. The City of NY merged the EMS and DOITT system together into one system with 21 frequencies back in hte Spring. Take a peek at the links on www.n2nov.net for the latest info.

Did I do this correctly?

I basically set channels in my scanner to the following freq's example ch 1 856.43750 ch 2 856.76250 ch 3 856.93750 ch 4 856.98750 ch 5 857.43750 (RED) etc but is there a way to group these freq under 1 channel so that i dont take up 10 channels up? Well after programing these channels I set the IDs ,,example
14560 38e D.E.P. WATER DEPT. TELEMETRY OF REMOTE STREET UNITS/LEAKAGE
15952 3e5 1A D.E.P. EXECUTIVE
15984 3e7 1B D.E.P. MANH. WATER & SEWER

16048 3eb 1D D.E.P.B KLYN WATER & SEWER

I found that half way through programing the ID's I ran out of room to post further IDs ...does that mean i have to take up another 10 channels with the above Freq's to allow for room to post the additional 30 ID's ?
