After getting this new 1095 setup and running I've noticed that both the unit itself and the software seem to be a little quirky at times.

The software seems to freeze up/"not respond" (running windows 7) a lot and I have to re-attach the remote head a couple times in order to power up. There appears to be other little buggy type things as well.

Has anyone had any issues like this?

Never any issue with the software .. make sure you have the new version. It was released in the last few days .. and is on the Whister website.

The scanner .. if you have problems, pull the power cable .. and reinsert. Unless it is like a 03xxxx error which is an SD card error, you should be good.

Just be sure that you do not release the power button too early .. you have to hold it and wait til you see the "release message" on the screen.

Oh .. if you have not already done so, buy a USB SD card reader .. using the USB connected to the scanner is just painfully slow. If you are doing it this way .. that is very likely why you are having issues. I do not even have a USB cable on my 1095 except the one time I did the firmware update.

No issues with device drivers or software versions here - and mine also locks up frequently. It also has a nasty habit of failing to copy all files "after" it issues "All Files Copied" message, which leaves my SD card corrupted. I've replaced the original card with a newer one, but still have the same issue.

The only way around it for me is to remove the SDHC card and program it in my PC's card reader. The software has many issues, I hope they correct them soon. Once it goes south, not even Task Manager can remove it - it takes a hard boot to get the job done.

Thanks EDM

I did have luck with the "power cable unplug solution". ;)

And yes to all the other tips you mentioned. I'm thinking it has to do with the remote head not seating quite perfectly sometimes.

I did notice that the manual says to hold the button for 1 second to power up but it appears its more like 3 on mine, just in case anyone is wondering about that.

Yep. Had to do that a couple times (reboot).

I've had the same issue with the 800 program as well so it would appear it just doesn't agree with some computers 100% of the time. But then again, what does...?

Thanks inland.

There are no issues with the software .. the issue is the USB interface to the scanner.

If you want no issues .. spend the $5 and buy a USB SD card reader. Your issues will magically go away.

If one person comes up and says they are using an SD card reader and has a problem (that is not user error) .. I will lick my scanner. But not my 1095. :D

If you have an SD card slot in your computer .. use it.

Yes, edm, I said I'm in agreement with all of your "tips".

I've always used the card slot for both the 800 and the 1095 but I might have to get an actual reader.

Possibly, but... why would it hang when the scanner isn't connected to the USB port at all - as in... just setting up your Systems and Play Lists?

As an IT Specialist for almost 20 years, yes I happen to fix computers and develop software for a living, my first rule .. reboot your computer.

It is amazing what problems a simple reboot will fix.

Second .. remove and reinstall the software. I always make sure it ALL is gone .. and depending on your computer skills that may or may not be possible.

If that does not fix the issue, I would take a serious look at your pc.

Honestly .. if the software really did have the problems that is being implied here, a lot more people would be having issues .. and I just don't see that happening on these forums.

I use the software for the PSR800 and 1095 on a daily basis (though mostly for audio). But in all the time I have been using them I have never had an issue with either program.

+1. The only time I ever had a problem with the software (granted it was the RS version but I think we can agree that they're pretty closely related) a reboot fixed it.

Also I always run mine as Administrator. I saw elsewhere that some had recommended this, I just run it that way from experience with other apps that sometimes get dodgy if not run as Admin. It seems to work for me, anyway.:D

I'll keep an eye on the software, it's been a frustrating ride - Just 21 Years? I think I've got 20 more on you, not just limited to PC's... Started in 74 :)

I used REVO to completely remove it and performed a reinstall (in Administrator Mode) after I observed it consuming a large amount of memory which eventually locked up the PC required a re-boot. I continue to have issues, but the most annoying problem was solved using a card reader.

I've gotten in the habit of just holding the power button in until the display lights up and actually says "Power On (release button)".

I've all but given up on mine - the software designers need to have their heads examined.

The only thing I would like is a separate window for editing the data rather than having to edit it from the mass of data on the screen.

The reason that it is this way .. is cause you can have multiple scanlists per one item. That is different than Uniden .. as they only edit one favorite list at a time.

The software is just fine. If you have issues, you are not using it as designed. I have seen much worse software.

Questions for the WS 1095 mobile operators

Say you install the WS1095 into your car and hook the power up to the ignition.

1st question: If the scanner is switched on but you turn the ignition off, killing the power, does this corrupt the SD card/operating system?

2nd Question (related to above): If the scanner is switched on and you kill the power externally via the ignition, will the scanner automatically come back on when you switch the ignition back on?

3rd Question: If the scanner is switched on and you start the motor, does the low battery voltage cause any problems?
