What software besides the Icom software works with the R8600? I remember reading about a iPad version but didn't find anything when I looked. Any new decode software out there? Thanks.

I've been using SDR Console Beta version 3.3 -3131 and it's been working very well, with rare minor hiccups cured by a stop/start.
Great features!
It has an "interface" to DSDPlus which I may get working, someday....(not the program's fault) or you can use a Virtual Audio cable to go to whatever.

Thanks folks. On WFView web site now to get the manual. Am assuming I need to connect the R8600 to my router, correct? Haven’t read anything yet. Just want to sit in my recliner using my iPad to relax and scan. Appreciate your help.

I always run mine with its LAN connection but I think it may work via USB. LAN would be ideal for performance. If you're using an iPad the SDR-Control software mentioned is pretty cool. I haven't used it in a while but when I was the 8600 was still not fully developed. I'm not sure where the software writer is with it now but even in its developing stages it was great. There are separate iPad and Mac versions.

Just downloaded SDR control for the iPad. Been reading over the directions. Tomorrow I’ll give it a try. Anything not covered in the directions I need to know about? Looks fairly simple. Don’t plan on any remote connections at this time. Thanks.

Already have the SDR control for the iPad. Was just asking if the instructions are correct or if there might be other things needed to connect.

SdrGlut has supported the IC-R8600 on Windows for about two years -

I plan to start things with WFView but my problem is that I don't have a hardwired Ethernet connection to plug the R8600 into. I'd like to be able to access the R8600 remotely when I'm not at home.

I've started looking at Ethernet to WiFi Bridges on Amazon. It's hard to tell if they are transparent and allow the R8600 to be seen or if the 8600 is masked behind the WiFI device. Many of the sellers misuse the term bridge when they are really selling WiFi extenders.

Any suggestions for known good devices to get the 8600 a solid Ethernet connection via WiFi? This is an example of one that looks as if it should work:
IOGEAR Universal Ethernet to Wi-Fi N Adapter

Thanks!

You don't have a router for home wifi? Mine is plugged into my router. iPad see's it no problem.
That's pretty nice that you have easy access to your router. At my location the IP provider's WiFi router is in an upstairs room and I won't be running CAT cable to it. Inside the room the 8600 is located in I don't have a local hardwired Ethernet connection to plug the R8600 into. So a Wifi bridge seems to be a good solution.

Don't make me come over there and run a cable......

I have WFview running the IC-R8600 over the Internet. The trick with the router was to put it in the Range Extender mode so that it's Ethernet ports would bridge across WiFi to the internetimage0(9).jpeg

What did you end up using on the 8600 to get a WiFi signal into it's ethernet port?
You'd mentioned not having access to ethernet where your 8600 resides so I assume you used some type of ethernet to WiFi bridge type device.
My 8600's are both hardwired into a switch but I've had times I've wished I could put one on wireless for a short period of time for remote control when I'm working away from the switch. Right now, I dig out a 100 foot ethernet cable which is not always practical.
