Just purchased a kenwood tk-7180 mobile radio with remote mount head kit. i have a 2010 chevy silverado z-71 crew cab what would be the best installation of the radio? An should i use the remote head mount where should i hide the radio itself any ideas?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I haven't personally done an install on any of the newer Chevy trucks but in my opinion (I've ben installing for 10+ years) I would use the remote kit for sure. Its always easy to find a good place to put a remote head, especially the size of the 7180 head.
As far as the tranceiver itself I would mount it under the rear seat. Outta sight, outta mind. Some of the Chevy vehicles can be a pain when it comes to getting through the firewall for power & such. The newer trucks may not be that bad, but the 2004-2006 or 07 models were a pain.

im not so sure about under the back seats the seats fold up so it will be seen im not sure ill have to look closely

You could hide it under the driver or passenger front seats. If you have power seats make sure you leave enough clearance for the seat motors, and also beware under the front seats of airbag wires. If there are airbag wires under the seat they should be in yellow loom. I think that is pretty much the standard color so you can identify those wires in paticular. As long as you stay away from those you should be ok otherwise.
