Shockingly, RS #22C458 (Dp Electronics) in little Sidney, NE is still clinging to life. The Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops merger may be the dagger in the heart, however.

All the RS stores in my area are all closed and gone now, 5 stores within 10 miles of me. Closest 2 store remaining are both probably 50 miles away and they are really not RS. Just a authorized dealer.

At this moment in Burlington, Vermont, somebody is trying to steal the old Radio Shack store sign!! (Our store closed months ago) I had nowhere to share this where it might be appreciated other than here😃

I can't picture the City of Burlington in my mind. So, I will have to go with City of Brattleboro, down in Windham County(1972-74, 75-76, 78-80,82-84). I could picture an RS being on Main St. and some kid taking a sign. Remembering I am visualizing.

I saw a picture where someone removed the big "R" from radio and the "hack" from shack, leaving a sign that said "adio S"

Appropriate.

I really have no idea how RS plans to remain in business. They were barely operating in the past two years between the last two bankruptcies. Our stores were constantly plagued with lack of stock, non-existent product quality control, no advertising whatsoever, corporate incompetence, and all while continually fighting the perception that we went out of business in 2015. Just cruise through the website, and you'll see that the most popular product description is "sold-out online". How that's going to translate into success is beyond me.

I don't believe anyone is really saying that will happen with any sincerity.

Not on this board, at least. But I'd have to guess the company believes they have a chance. While I do think the dealer stores may find success, the remaining company stores (30?) and the website won't. The shopping public has spent the past two years, maybe even the past twenty, moving on from RadioShack. The only advantages RS ever had over other retailers and the Internet, convenience and availability, are gone.

The only thing I liked about having a local RS was to save me time if I needed something in a crunch. There two electronic Store here that carried the stuff Radio Shack used to. I really do not miss them anymore.

There are fewer repairs being made on consumer electronics. Whatever happened to TV repair shops? They went the way of the vertical knobs on old TVs. If it breaks, you throw it away and get another one. TVs are now computers and most of the work inside is done by ICs, You can't repair those. The fact of the matter is, most electronics don't break down much anymore and they're cheap enough to simply replace. When the era of digital TV hit, I replaced my CRT TVs. I tried to give them to Goodwill and the Salvation Army. They worked just fine but no one would take them.

RS tried the cell phone business but by the time they got serious about it, the carriers firmly established their own stores. If RS could possibly get into a unique business that the public might use (i.e., recycled toilet paper), they might, just might, have a chance.

Any chance a cactus graphic was added to the sign?

(Not sure if you saw that in the same place that I did...if you did, you know what I mean!)
