That's because the stores closing out are NOT (as clearly pointed out in this thread) owned by Radio Shack. They are the property of HILCO, and have nothing to do with RS, in spite of the name on the store.

I visited a (Local - Boston area) RS/Sprint store the other day.
The only items on Sale were the RS Battery Packs (plastic Case) at about 50% off, which had been occurring since last Fall and the Pro-652 at $199.99 (Sale thru 8/2015)

Not much else was Red Tagg'ed And the Parts Bin was well stocked.

Still feeling out the current stores to see what is really going on.

My store still has the same 9 scanners in stock at 60% off. Pro-651, 652, 668 and 396xt. Come on price drop. Not moving fast enough. LOL

Pro668

picked up a pro-652 today for 170.makes me happy!

Well, I got my Pro668 from e-bay for $222.00. It's a great scanner. The iScan was a bit of a learning curve and once you figure it out, it programs the 668 really fine. This scanner really rocks and I was suspect buying from e-bay, but the seller is very reputable so I won this round!

G'day All,
I went to my local [well, not exactly] local Radio Shack to pick up a 12vDC to 9vDC lighter adapter and got a "C" tip included [gratus]. This will be used to power my Pro-164 scanner when I take it in the truck on trips etc.
I also have a Pro-163 in a bracket mounting [with heat shield] mounted on the center dashboard.

Anyway, while I was talking to the Manager, I asked about RS's status.
His reply was encouraging.
He told me that RS is now under new ownership, and that they have jettisoned 60% of the stores [nation-wide], and will be re-stocking the stores with electronics and Radios etc., afterall, the name will remain "Radio Shack" not 'Cell & Crap Toys Shack.'

I was happy to hear that, and he [the Manager] suggested that I/we be patient as re-stocking 40% of the stores with new inventory will take some time.

I then asked him about Radio Scanners etc., and was told that; of course they will still be a viable part of the new inventory.

I was well relieved, as you can imagine.
Patience! Folks.
Cheers n 73s for now.

I've been in a few meetings with District Managers, the guys the store managers answer to and they are upbeat for the most part and hopeful for the future.

I have become close personal friends with two store managers locally, invited the both of them over for dinner the wife cooked. The talk of course was about Radio Shack and all the goings on.

After they left my wife commented ... " I see what you mean, those two young ladies are extremely knowledgeable about Electronics and the hobby side of things. "

One manager was 31 and has 11 years with Radio Shack, the other was 28 and has 6 years with Radio Shack.

Now whenever something happens in and around Radio Shack I get daily updates.

Both of those managers ran stores that are now closed, and both were moved to permanent positions in non-closing locations.

I bought most of the inventory out of their stores and was at both of them on the very last day.

In a way it was sad seeing the last piece of merchandise walk out the door of the stores .... it was almost as if a friend had just died.

But it's all gonna be good going forward.

In the mean time I have three more stores to 'clean out'! ;)

I bought a 'new' OKI C711 Color Laser Printer from one store, I got the printer and three complete sets of toner cartridge as was as image drums for a song and a dance! :) :)

Well, the store closing in my area had about 5 each of the Iscan, Pro-652, and Pro-651. All were marked down to $200.

Went back this week and every last one of them was gone. I'm surprised that so many people bought them up. Part of me wonders if a franchise owner or Ebayer just came in and bought them all. I was waiting for them to hit 60 to 70 percent off before I made a move.

I truly envy the folks that managed to snag these for less than $150. Looks like I'm stuck with my aging Pro-96's.

I would prefer they post the ones that are closing

They did .........

http://www.hilcoglobal.com/docs/def...k-store-closing-locations-040215.pdf?sfvrsn=2

and when.

From a business standpoint, and HILCO is a business, that would not make any sense.
HILCO's job is to extract as much money from the assets of Radio Shack that they can.

If the published the end dates everyone would wait until then to go in and buy, and HILCO would lose revenue.

This is why the discounting is done according to a specific schedule and closing dates are kept secret,

However if one pays attention, one can predict with some certainty when a store will be closing.

The clock begins to tick the first day the STORE CLOSING signs go up, from that point forwards the end date is known. However that end date can change, if the sell down is too slow, the closing will be pushed forward and discounting schedules will be altered to allow for more time.

Discount schedule altering is a simple matter of change the drop dates from every 7 days to every 14 days.

Keep in mind that the people who bought them this time around at $200 were the same people who were waiting for them to hit $150 the last time, and failed to do so.

I've read reports of people snagging them at $100.00 but when asked to show the receipt proving they paid $100.00 that person disappeared.

In my experience with this liquidation, $200 seems to be the selling price, unless a store has an overstock.

I did get some at $150.00 ( and yes I have the receipt ) but that was only because the store that I got them from was shipped 35 scanners.

Prices were watched closely ......

They sold 2 @ $250.00 ( two separate buyers )
They sold 3 @ $200.00 ( three separate buyers )
They sold 27 @ $150.00 ( three separate buyers - 1 buyer got 20, another buyer bought 7, store manager was holding three back for family / friends )

One of the three the manager was holding back never got picked up and one lucky guy was able to snag it for $50 because he bought it when the store went to 90% and the manager was not there.

I noticed that inventory locally sharply dropped when they went from 50% to 60%. I was going to hold out for 70% but it was pretty clear that chances of that happening were very low, as Gary had advised earlier.

One other thing that is going on .....

If a closing store has a number of high value items, say PRO-668 Scanners and they are not moving....

In this last round of closings HILCO is ordering store managers to pack up inventory and ship it to other stores.

I was watching inventory levels at a store in Maryland when all of a sudden some things vanished.

I asked the manager if they sold they last night and she said " no, Hilco had me pack them up and send them to two stores in another state. "

They are moving stuff from where it is sitting, to where it is selling.

HICLO is getting devious in these end days and the end is near ..... like the last Friday of June as best as I can tell.

NO - I do not work for HILCO or RADIO SHACK .

But I can tell you I have spent more times INSIDE the Radio Shack stores than the 'good for nothing' Hilco reps have.

That could certainly be what I saw in one store. A few days before 70% dropped to 60%, they had 8 or 10 Pro 668s. By the end of the day it dropped to 60%, all of a sudden there were 2 or 3.

Can't blame Hilco. Just proves they are doing their job, which is to maximize the cash return and generation as the inventory is liquidated. Expect to see this at all stores as they start hitting the "giving it away" sell off percentages.

I bought a Pro-651 for $80, when the store here closed. If I can find the receipt, I'll gladly snap a picture of it & post it here.

Wow! If a store around here, or where a friend could get one had one that cheap, I would buy one just for a spare. Cheapest I've seen around here for a 651 was $199.95 for the last one they had, and it didn't work right (Speaker sounded like it was blown).

They had them listed at 70 percent off here and it rang up at 80 percent off. If they had more than 1, if I would have bought a few. Our store was one of the first to close. Not surprised things have been refined a bit.

I was referring to the PRO-668's only.

I too snagged a PRO-651 for $80 at the store in Canton in Baltimore.

Oddly enough the Canton store is where I got all of the 668's I got.

Many people came in later in the day after I got my PRO-668's @ $150.00 but there were none left.

For the PRO-668, $150 seems to be the magic number.

That's indicative of a manager not doing their job.

Night before the price drop they are supposed to go around and update all of their signs.

It's a good thing when they don't ... because shoppers are not away.

I always go into a store, pull 5 items and have then price checked.

I pull the same 5 items but each is from a different category.

Often times when the sign says 50% to 80% off, prices can change even if that sign does not.

Things that were 60 might bounce up to 70 without announcement, if it is a slow mover.

I picked up a ton of ARDUINO Shields at 90% off when the store was at 60% to 80% Off.

For some reason they were not moving fast enough ..... well @ 90% off they all moved that morning.
