I think one thing that people dislike are the ads that appear in the forums. I would hope that could be changed. I know it is income but it looks like they could be repositioned. I would also like to see some support for the Vest'NPDP site. Gordon has graciously put a donation box up on his site and so far ScanGeorgia members have purchased eleven bullet and stab proof vest for Police K-9's around Georgia. We are working toward the 12th. This site would open this up to a completely different group and perhaps generate some new interest. I guess the members of ScanAmerica were a little more Pro Public Safety than this site which seems to focus on scanning more than anything.

Yeah, the ads are an eyesore, but as Lindsay said (on the ScanAmerica forums I think), RadioReference is still a business and he spends a lot of time working on the site. Time = Money.

I wasn't too sure about the merger either at first, because the attitude seems so much more laid-back on ScanAmerica. At the same time, Gordon will still be managing the feeds and RadioReference will be adding more features, so really there's no negative to the merger except for the usual maliciously snarky forum comments that we've always had from a select few of the RadioReference community members. :p

It's also worth noting that the aforementioned ads are going to help fund the 500+ radio feeds -- donations to ScanAmerica covered only a small portion of Gordon's expenses at ScanAmerica. No doubt it takes a lot of money to keep these feeds going.

It appears to me that RR intends to be a significant force within the monitoring community...An aggreement to pick up SA and its 'assets"....apears to be a great financial aquisition...
i sincerely hope this merger equates to a further streamlined database....
Good Luck with this endeavor....

Been out of the loop for a month or two, any new news with this? I only have 45 days left on my premium membership and would like to know what the plans are before I pay to renew (I know, I'm cheap).

No firsthand knowledge... but from reading between the lines in somebody's post a few days ago, it sounds like something is going to happen on / around June 14 with regard to there being a noticeable addition of audio content present on the RR board. If that's the case, I imagine by that time you'll probably have your answer.

Are you providing a feed on SA now? If so, go over there and make sure your SA account is "associated" with your RR account - if you're a feed provider over there you will see the additional "RR Usernames" selection on your left on the SA site.

If you aren't providing a feed and your'e asking because you want to know if you need to renew your subscription in order to listen to audio feeds, my understanding is that the feeds will remain free - but that audio archives will only be available to RR members [at least at some point, if not initially] and there may be new features that are only available to RR members.

I wonder if RR will keep the same rules on how long the feeds have to stay up because there are a lot of part time feeds.

my reason is my area only has dial up and i can't stay on 24/7 i can try to keep it up 8/12 hrs a day.

The guidelines are the same, having your feed up only 8 - 12 hours a day is perfectly fine.

As a feed provider I was wondering if eventually TXT message updates for feed status will be an eventuality. E.g. Your feed(s) go down you get a TXT stating that X has been offline for X time.

Just send Gordon your full text address (usually your 10-digit number @ your carrier) and what feed you provide. I have had that set up for quite awhile and it's more effective than e-mail notifications.

If you have an e-mail address for your mobile device (most do), feed status notifications (online/offline) can be sent to it as well.

You will be able to update this secondary notification email address yourself in your profile when we go live on the 21st. We will also carry forward any existing secondary notification email when we import all the feeds on the 21st.

Thanks,
