• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

$189 for this puppy. Says triple band monitor. Not sure if that means all 3 vfo's can scan at same time. Will wait for someone to buy it and confirm. The web site has all the specs now.

Radtel's website shows the price being reduced from $299 to $189. Is that just the age-old marketing ploy of show an inflated high initial price and then mark it down to something lower?

Website also shows that this radio is "Sold Out" while also stating "15 sold in last 35 hours". Did I just catch their website at a bad time? <snark>

There are three reviews on their website. All 5 stars. One from a guy who says "I hope it comes out soon". So, that review can be discounted because the guy doesn't own the radio. Another useful review from a guy who says "HOLY BALLS!!". And, the third review says "I can't not wait for it to come out". Aside from the double negative, this is another guy who doesn't own the radio. Yet, all three reviews are "verified". Verified to be what? Certainly not verified purchasers. Maybe verified fan-bois. Or, maybe, verified AI-generated reviews slapped onto the website by their web editor.

More observations of Radtel's website: First slide says "Multi-band Professional Two-way Radio" and "Your compass, your comms, your lifeline." Your lifeline? Really? Another slide misspells the word "Inteligent". How ironic. In an image touting Shortwave Receive, there's a satellite dish in the background.

Looking around the Internet, there's a post about the radio in the Facebook doomsday radio preppers group where the poster says "Still a cool radio." Ok, helpful. Another commenter in the group says airband is receive only. And, there's a YouTube video from my ever-favorite M0FXB who never saw a press release or cut sheet that he couldn't read.

Still no FCC ID.

What a load of :poop:.

P.S. The keypad is laid out with the "0" key to the right of the "6" key instead of below the "8" key where it belongs. A pet peeve of mine.

I'll definitely wait for that price to come down, and for some trusted reviews.

I noticed something on my 950 the other day, and it brings up some questions. There's no type acceptance of any kind for the 950, but on the back is this:

Is that a legit FCC restriction, and if so, would that make it unusable for amateur transmissions? Or any transmitting at all? 🤔

Only way I would consider purchasing is IF the 3 VFO's can scan at the same time. If these things are not FCC certified, how are they making it in the country? Is customs not doing there job?

Did some searching online for more info on this radio. One post stated it will not transmit on SSB. Hope this isn’t the case but if it is, won’t even consider this radio.

I seriously doubt that it will transmit SSB. That's another size and price jump, and may not be doable from HF to UHF within those constraints. The "handheld" radios that transmit on sideband are HF or HF + 6 meters only.

Look at the President Randy v2. Probably your best alternative in a true handheld with decent SSB Tx performance.

The step up from there that gives you real SSB at 27 MHz are ones like the Elecraft, Lab599, and Xiegu models. Higher price points, but higher performance as well.

I have the president Randy 1. Number 2 brought in FM. Number 3 has ctcss. None off SSB. Had a Cherokee many years ago that had SSB. Great cb. Not sure but think midland offers one similar.

Could have sworn there was once a sideband version that modified to a 26-30 MHz channelized bandplan.
