Is there a device that I can add to my scanner to boost reception...or is an outside antenna the only answer?

An outside antenna is certainly a more practical solution, even if you aren’t able to mount it out in the open away from various surrounding structures. I take it you live in a HOA or town with third world restrictions on what you’re able to erect?

Which scanner are you using? If you are monitoring the Clinton County Simulcast site on the MARCS system, you may need less antenna. The Uniden SDS scanners are the only ones specifically designed to receive simulcast sites. If you are listening to MARCS and have a non-SDS scanner, try turning on the attenuator, changing the length and orientation of the antenna, and moving the scanner around the room.

Are you still struggling with your Pro 2096 or are you using something else? If the latter, please give make & model scanner(s) and what you're using for an antenna. As was mentioned to you in this thread as well as your threads here & here simulcast distortion could be the issue. Best bet is to pick up a Uniden SDS100, 150 or 200 to overcome it, but there are other measures you can try in the wiki posting above this one. You were also given solutions in your other thread but you deemed one "way above your pay grade"

An outside antenna is certainly a more practical solution,
Not if simulcast distortion's the issue, it'll only make the matter worse

I am sure you only accidentally left out the most important word ... "hieght".

Call it a senior moment in middle age. Lo! I misread his post, thinking that he was stuck with an INDOOR antenna and him believing that there might’ve been some way of improving the reception from the inside, without having to go the external antenna route. Don’t ever get old like me!
