Hey all. First time posting in a forum… ever. Not sure if this is the best place, but maybe someone can plug me in to where I need to be?

Looking to see if there are folks out there willing to remote program(via Ethernet) my SDS200. I generally have everything I want in there with the local zip feature. However, I’m looking for a custom setup and have a couple of questions on some local talk groups I can’t get figured out.

Any help appreciated! -Dan

while someone could write you a favorites file and email it to you, you'd be much better off posting your progress, your questions and letting people answer them. Learning (to me) is part of the fun and understanding it will help you later. Having someone else do it for you is a bandaid solution at best because eventually, you'll think of more changes. I know that I do.

You can post screenshots or even direct message the favorites (all zipped up) to show what it looks like so far. If you're not familiar w/ that, dont' worry, you can learn that too. (everyone here had to learn at some point. No one was born knowing and we're easily all older than the release of the sds200.)

Use the “add channels on range” option in Sentinel to create a favorites list from the database. You can then adjust this FL by removing what you don’t want.

Oh, and then ask specific questions about systems in your area in the sub-forum for your state.

As jtwalker has suggested, you can have Sentinel create a "starter" favorites list for you. Then, as you become more familiar & comfortable with the scanner, you can add, or delete agencies in your area. even before you get the scanner, you can download & install Sentinel, Uniden's software for the SDS and xHP series scanners.

As far as questions about some of your local talkgroups, you can request that your thread be moved to the Arkansas forum, where you'll be able to connect with someone in your area. To do that, click on the Report link in the lower left corner of your post, & request that a moderator move your thread to the state forum. Someone there may well be able to give you additional suggestions on what you do, & do not, want programmed.

There are literally dozens of "how to" videos on YouTube for programming these scanners. While there are features available in the SDS (and SDS) scanners that are not usable in the HP & HP scanners, basic programming of systems, departments, and sites (for trunked systems) is the same for all four of these scanners. Looking at your county, Washington, the county and many of the cities have moved to the statewide system, AWIN. some of the public safety agencies may also use the older LTR Passport system. From the notes, it appears that, for the most part, that system is simulcasting the same thing you can hear on AWIN.

What I strongly suggest that you do not do is pay the dealer where you purchase the scanner to program it for you. They are going to charge you $50, or more, to simply append systems from the main database into a Favorites list. If you, as suggested, have Sentinel create a list, based on your interests, location, & range, you are getting the same thing at no cost. Also don't pay a dealer to "optimize" your scanner before shipping. That means that they would update the scanner's database & do any firmware update that is available. Both of those are done with Sentinel, which you can easily do yourself.
