    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

P1225/M1225 Replacement mic for the M1225: HMN1056, HMN1035, HMN3001, or something else?

Greetings,

We have an older Motorola M1225 (narrowbanded) which was on the shelf, believed to be in working order, but now being repurposed into another vehicle. Only problem being the mic doesn't seem to work; on transmit, I can wiggle the cord and voice comes crackling 'in and out' on the other listening units. By the condition of the connector, I'm guessing the mic is the issue.

After contacting a couple of vendors, they really didn't know what mic should go with the radio; I'm sure this radio has been out of their service and sales realm for a moment.

I was thinking about the HMN1035C "Heavy duty palm mic" and also looking at the HMN1056 "Compact palm mic." Neither look like what is on the radio currently (guessing its a HMN3174B "Compact microphone with TX LED indicator", which I cannot find on the internet).

Not really a Motorola guy; any suggestions what I should be looking for?

1035c is probably what came with those. The one with LED was for a previous model radius think SM50 etc... It would work also.

I would source on ebay if possible as would be cheaper than a dealer.

Also does your current mic, can the cord be removed from head. Some had a plug in/out style cable on the head end also. If so you might just need a new cord.

You could try crimping on a new connector, its a simple RJ45. Otherwise, ive used CDM mics interchangeably. Those are a dime a dozen on ebay for cheap

If my memory serves me right, the original mobile microphone was the HMN3008a microphone mostly used on the MCS2000 and Radius mobiles. I believe the same mic may have been used on the PM400 and the CDM series mobile radios.

The HMN1035C microphone is the Classic Mobile Microphone with the RJ45 connector and will work on all Motorola Mobiles that utilizes the RJ45 style connector. It definitely will work on the MCS2000 and the CDM mobiles.

You can use just about any Motorola mic with an RJ45 connector. I can confirm that CDM and CM mics will work just fine on the M1225. I’ve even used a CM’d mic from the TRBO series on them.
