People wonder why some products never make it to market or why sellers require payment in advance before going ahead with things like this. I can understand that there might be a few legitimate changes in situation that justify not placing an order, but absent that it seems to me the numbers should be pretty close.
I fully realize that these may not be legally binding obligations, but feel that is irrelevant. Many, many years ago my father said of someone, "His handshake is better than most people's signature" and I've obviously remembered that as well as the person that he was describing. Seems like a worthy goal to have people think of you that way.
[Rant off]
Having launched about a half dozen of large scale amateur radio-based products, the results here were not a shock. As I said, I took that past history and bought parts to build half of what was "spoken for". In this situation, by doing that, I didn't lose any money, I came out ok. BUT, at this point, I would have to go in for another large batch and I doubt the numbers would be there the second time around to support it. In that case, I would be stuck with a bunch of un-sellable inventory.
I can probaly chock that up to the fact that the RH-96 is no longer being produced. Someone earlier in the thread asked "if the RH-96 is no longer being produced, that begs the question of why put the effort into this?" (paraphrased). My answer to that was based on the units that were already out there and the reaction I had from people who already had one and was looking for a better way to connect it up. especially in a mobile environment.
I wish I could get a response from UPMan on what Uniden's plans are for the RH-96.
