The tone was still going early this morning but has since gone silent.

I agree on the planned coverage. This is obviously a test signal.

I'll add that frequency as a "test" conventional for Richardson as well. Already have it in a dummy P25 system.

I'm out of the office today, taking a long weekend, but I'll check it next week, & see if I can hear it from the south side. My office location is near Medical City.

Well I was browsing the FCC Database and came across a few things.

WNVR825 Has Modifications Pending (o6/10/2011)

Cross Referencing the Frequency with the Emissions Designator The below frequencies have been requested to use these emissions: 8K10F1DP25 Phase I C4FM data and 8K10F1EP25 Phase I C4FM voice (P25 mode in RRDB) (Emission info can be found here)

807.20000
807.25000
807.27500
807.30000
807.32500
807.35000
807.37500
808.61250

So, it looks like the changes are being held in licensing but the frequencies listed above will become the NEW City of Richardson P25 Radio system. August maybe a little premature but it looks like this will happen soon.

Richardson's EDACS was still alive and well when I passed through there last Friday night.. in fact, I was able to hear it all the way up at the Love's on 75 in Anna. And that's not the first time I've been able to hear them almost all the way into Oklahoma while the signal almost completely disappears once you get a few miles south of 635. Terrain-influenced propagation is weird yo.

Not any more. All I hear is a blast of staticy noise.

859.4125 tone is back, P25 conventional, NAC 293. No P25 trunk activity.
That's what I was hearing yesterday afternoon. Had my XT sitting on the desk, using an earpiece. Didn't have it upstairs today, but did catch the same constant tone, 859.4125/NAC 296, when I was leaving this evening. If/when they ever activate the P25 system, I'll take the HP-1 & let it run in analyzer mode for a while.

That is probably going to be the simulcast test tone. Way it works is, each individual channel in the trunk is brought up simultaneously at all of the sites with a test tone for frequency calibration.

Looks like the press releases etc were waaaayyyyyy too fluffy. They're only using one voice channel in addition to the data channel. And - It looks like they turn it off at night when they go home and then turn it back up in the morning - at least, that's what they've done the past couple of nights. Not what I would call a robust production system.

Richardson has some very technically oriented people, and extended the test period to ensure they were happy with the systems operation. They put their system fully online last week with 4 frequencies, and moved their general government operations onto it. Public safety soon to follow. The old EDACS system is still up, but only supports public safety on 5 freqs.

I think Richardson has made the switch. Today, Friday, January the 6th, I have been monitoring all day and I haven't heard and PD or FD traffic. When I updated my radio a while back I got some Richardson P25 updates but I haven't heard anything on that either. Hearing Dallas, Plano, Garland, Dallas County, Collin County, DPS and some of the other things I usually scan. I recently got the free paper Richardson Today, the January 2012 issue, and it is titled Public Safety issue and the feature article on page 1 is City launches radio communications system. Doesn't say anything about frequencies, talk groups or a specific date for the switch but does say, "Non-public safety staff received radios Dec. 6 for a shakedown under load which allowed for thorough testing and adjustments before moving police and fire departments to the new system. A full system acceptance test was done Dec. 12 which confirmed all features of the system and in-building and out-of-building coverage". Does anyone have any additional information ?

I concur, I hear PD traffic on the P25 system at this time. It also appears that the EDACS control channel is gone.

PD Dispatch is in the clear, however, the TAC channels appear to be encrypted. You knew that expensive encryption key server had to be used for something.

I commend Richardson for thinking these things out. Dispatch should be in the clear. We'll see where they draw the line on the encryption.

I am able to receive this new system on an outside antenna in Sherman during the late night/early morning hours, and that's with the squelch almost maxed out. I never was able to do that with the EDACS.
