They may have purchase a site license for ScanCat Lite, prior to Win96 being available. Or, it may have been a Radio Shack "Executive Decision"!

Have to give them credit for recommending what's best!

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. Without WIN96, my PRO-96 might as well be a $400 doorstop. I've not used the ScanCat program, but from what I've read about it, it's junk compared to Don's program.

I've used ScanCat plenty and it's not bad. It's MUCH easier to understand and use for Scanner Newbies than Win9x. (idiot-proof, that is) ScanCat doesn't have as many bells-and-whistles, (iike importing from RR - which I love,) but it is nice to have one program which will work on so many scanners. It also makes transferring between models a breeze (ie: pro95->pro97 or pro94->pro96)

Also, the version of ScanCat that is used in the RS stores is a bit different. It's pretty much a dumbed-down version. (ScanCat Lighter?) It WILL NOT allow you to create new data files. You can only use ones downloaded from the NatCom database, or ones that you create yourself with a full version of ScanCat Lite.

To each his own...
