• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm a heavy CPS user. Just recently got into RSS with maxtrac. Everything seems to be simular, but just older. Unfortunately, one thing that is unclear to me is the scan list. When selecting what I want on the scan list, does the nopri mean its scanning that channel but isnt priority, or is it emliminating it completely from the scanlist? We use lowband so i cant just grab a portable and try to see if it scans because I'm inside the building. Thanks in advance!

ok so on the scan list

N pri=that channel is on that modes scanlist, but non priority.

i just wanna double check because either i'm not listening at the right times when its on scan, or the scan list isnt right (i think its the first). plus i'm inside of a building.

how many bars are lit on the display? all 3 horizontal segments means user programmed scan with priority. i think only the bottom bar lit means basic scan no priority.

also, early '90's model low band maxtracs had a run of bad firmware. i remember having to change the prom in a bunch of them for the local SO so scan would work with priority. this was in 91-92, if the radio is newer than that i doubt it has the issue. but it could be part of your problem, unfortunately if it is i dunno if the fix is still available.

if you do have all 3 bars lit, it scan ONLY the channels you manually added to the scan list. i think it is press and hold scan until the ch number flashes, then walk thru the channels hitting select 1x to put them in scan, 2x to make 1st priority, 3x for 2nd, then 4th time to remove entirely. when done hit the scan button again. i may be wrong on that, but it seems like that was how it was done. been a few years since the last time i had to prog scan list on a maxtrac!
