When I run rtl_test, it "fails"....losing data. How do I fix that?

Try a lower sample rate. (default is 2048000)

Such as:
rtl_test -s 1400000 (or even 1000000)

The problem is, you're tying to run this in a virtual machine.

Having that gaming rig, do you not have a spare hard drive laying around? You can eliminate many of the hurdles by not using a VM.

..and staying away from Kali

I thought I read somewhere about updating rtl-sdr library before gr-osmosdr? True? and if so, how is the best way to go about that? Uninstall in Pybomb and then reinstall rtl-sdr and gr-osmosdr or ????? sudo apt-get update kinda thing???

It failed at all sample rates. Gqrx "runs" but apparently it has to do with improper RTL - SDR settings/driver?

Do sample rates have to be multiples of 512? Options I get are numbers followed only by trailing zeros ...no odd numbers
