Rust protection of antennas

Hi. I'm new here and I'm going to ask a question but I don't know if it's allowed to talk about themes little different from the site's context.

Well, I have built a 4G DIY Disc Antenna. It's working OK within the range expected. But, as long as the boom is made of a common iron swept screw, I'm afraid that in not long time it will be all rusted. So, my question is, may I paint at least the boom and the knobs in order to prevent the rusting? Will the paint or enamel affect the antenna performance? May I prevent rusting by adding a plastic coat protector to the swept screw?

I provide a picture of the antenna diagram. The parts I need to paint is the main swept screw spotted in blue and the knobs which will fixed the aluminum discs on their position.
