Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure what to select for the P25 systems. Those are the tables I selected.

One thing I did not ask before...........is it OK to use the GRE Programming cable for the Pro-96? I am using the GRE cable for the PSR-500. Could that be my problem? The TGs and frequences are in the Pro-96, it just isn't picking up much other than SAFE-T but even that isn't 100% now.

I use the GRE cable (Blue one) for my 96 and both 92's. Works like an charm.

P25 or Analog

Going to be traveling trough IN in the next few weeks. Running I65 have a PSR-800 want to just monitor ISP should I program for P25 or analog.

In fact there is very little analog use on the system, other than IDOT, IDOC, a few FD's, and maybe one county. Program it as an Motorola Type II (Rebanded)

Knox County is all analog.

Knox and like one other are the only ones running mainly analog on SAFE-T. Pretty much everyone else is digital. ISP is fully digital. And since the OP is interested in ISP Operations, then if he programs the system CC Only, 800 MHz Motorola Type II with the rebanded tables and enters the TG's for ISP he will be fine. Also about Elkhart yes.

At this point you want to put in the current system (Mot II Rebanded), and the upgraded system. P25, and no special settings for rebanded as the CC handles all that for you, just prog in for CC Only. You guys should see testing by May, and phase 1 sites online in late June/July.

Equipment question

Has anyone heard what IPSC will authorize as far as different vendors? I had figured that anything P25 compatible that they would authorize could be purchased and submitted. Today I heard that there is a "bid process," and I'm wondering if we're going to wind up locked into high-end stuff, just as we were with the Mot2 system. My Department (and most in the area) runs the EFJ radios and we're not as pleased with the performance as we could be...much less the ridiculous price.:roll:

The only names I trust personally are Motorola (APX baby), EFJ by word of mouth and using a couple of HT's back when I was in AR., and TAIT, (Just tough and reliable gear period).... After that, I just am not really impressed.

My hope is that they will allow NX5000-series Kenwood's. We've used Kenwood gear on VHF-Hi for years with excellent results. We had old TK-260s and TK-270s from the early '90s we retired when the NFM mandate came down that had never needed service. Very tough, very reliable, I saw a number of them get dropped 20' or more onto hard surface, battery would pop off, put it back on, good to go. We carried them as pagers into the early 2000s, you can imagine how they were treated by a bunch of farmers or factory workers, they took a ton of abuse and just kept working. We had one that the audio went almost out on...took it apart, the speaker was full of metal dust, the guy wore it while welding and grinding on stuff and the magnet just sucked it all in. Cleaned it out, good as new.

My perception of both the Moto and EFJ stuff is that they may be all right, but they're overpriced to a fare-thee-well...and I don't think we can count on many more DHS grants to pay for the bulk of it, that well is getting pretty dry. So if we have to foot the entire cost of some additional radios, we'd rather get 3 Kenwoods for the $$$ than 1 Moto or 1.25 EFJ's.:wink:

But until they chase us completely off of VHF-Hi, well, we have a bunch of TK-2312s that seem quite reliable...just thinking about the future here.

Was logging an lot of Phase 2 data being sent over the INDY site yesterday... No voice traffic, or affiliations logged, but the site was sending out P25 Phase 2 data all day.

That's kind of interesting. Any ideas on why they would be messing with phase 2 this early? I thought it was supposed to be several years before they switched to phase 2.

Never believe government press releases. This is exactly why, when I found out the new radios being purchased was already phase 2 capable, I purchased a phase 2 capable scanner. They claim phase 2 will not be implemented until 202. I have a gut feeling it will be much sooner.

They want the system to be capable at the time it goes online. There should be NO phase 2 comms until nearer to 2020. But its a whole lot easier to have the backbone ready now, so they won't need to upgrade much later.
