I was thinking of going on the system for my business. I wonder why they want to encryptThe information direct from a source at Saia is the system now has some active subscribers and it will be fully encrypted.
Yes, eventually all users will be migrated over to the CapMax system and be encrypted.are all current subscribers going to switch to the new system when it goes live and therefore everyone on saia will be encrypted?
YESI think there's an Echo in here. So, will existing Con+ users migrate to T3, use the same TGs, and be Fully Encrypted? Asking for a friend...
I have been advised the plan is to migrate all Con+ subscribers to CapMax but it could take up to 2 years to complete due to the thousands of radios involved and other issues. But, the migration has started and system buildout is progressing. So both subscriber units and Con+ channels will eventually all be converted to CapMax.My info from Saia is that existing Con + users will eventually migrate to CapMax, and use the same TGIDs. The Saia CapMax system will be fully encrypted.
What was not stated, and I did not ask assuming it was possibly not yet firmed up, is any schedule for migration or if it will be mandatory at some point. What is clear is that some have opted to upgrade and made the switch already.
Saia is still engaged in building out sites for CapMax including new sites and relocation or upgrades of existing sites. Site 32 Castile is new and Site 29 is being upgraded to higher power and moved from Highmark Stadium to the Orchard Park water tower. So it is still work in progress with more sites pending and I expect to have some updates as the buildout work and migration of subscribers progresses.
I need submissions of any existing Con+ frequencies that have been converted to CapMax. They will need to be removed from Con+ in RRDB and deleted from your Con+ programming or the scanner may have a problem in continuing to track the Con+ system.
So DSD+ observations of both systems will be of value. Not much point in programming a scanner for CapMax as there will be nothing to hear but observed site and channel information can be useful if the scanner can display it.
In any event, I don't expect any mass migration of subscribers before the CapMax system buildout is complete to support it.
That will be a major blow to the scanner hobby in Erie county NY.I have been advised the plan is to migrate all Con+ subscribers to CapMax but it could take up to 2 years to complete due to the thousands of radios involved and other issues. If you are monitoring an agency on SaiaNet now, be aware it will eventually go to encrypted CapMax. If they have an associated unencrypted conventional system, that will not necessarily be affected.
So, if you are considering buying a scanner to monitor SaiaNet be aware it will be gone in the near future, some agencies sooner rather than later.
Rumore has it Depew PD going P25 encrypted. That will be a major blow to the scanner hobby in Erie county NY.
Where did that info come from?Rumore has it Depew PD going P25 encrypted.
Sign of the times. Think about how often we are discussing SaiaNet on here and I know for a fact their are employees are on here reading everything. When they started building a new system instead of asking the question of why to encrypt it more likely was why wouldn't we encrypt it. With the excellent coverage they have within their system I am sure the coverage loss due to encryption is negligible. That will be a major blow to the scanner hobby in Erie county NY.
I hope they use Motorola instead of Kenwood's ridculous implemnation of P25. Town of Tonawanda has had so many issues that Kenwood has been working nonstop to rollout firmware updates to correct the issues.Rumore has it Depew PD going P25 encrypted.
There is a bit of irony in that statement, given some of the history of an outfit like Saia directly contributing info to the RRDB over the years. I'm neither confirming nor denying that Saia have done so, but I will confirm that things are not always as they appear...lots of behind the scenes stuff goes on around these parts. As great of a resource as Radio Reference is it's also one of its detriments.

In talking with some connected with the village, it was stated that PD is doing this. That being said, I didn't hear it first hand, so it's tagged as "rumor" (mis-spelled in previous post)Where did that info come from?
