There is information in this thread about the state of encryption on SFPD talkgroups. You should give it a read.

Dispatch is unencrypted on A1, A3, A5, and A7. Units are encrypted. This is indicated by a lowercase "e" in the database.
All other channels marked uppercase "E" in the database are fully encrypted.

What does that mean, "Direct"? Simplex? Not via the repeater?

Not so sure about that...? Seems to me the dispatches on SFFD A1-A2-A3 are still assigning Tactical/ Fire Ground channels in the same way (still on repeater). I do know that an individual operator on the fireground can swithch off to Direct if he/she is on A-09 thru A-16 ?

It’s a softkey in the menu on the APX6000. And you can Assign a button to do direct and repeat as well. For me my UHF/VHF XTS2500/5000. The emergency button is set for direct on and off. So any frequency I setup as a repeater I can hit the emergency button and it automatically makes that channel direct frequency

Not bee and A$$. Programming conventional into a scanner is way easier than Trunking I cry for you

SFFD units respond on A1 -A3. They are assigned a TAC Channel(TG) A7-A16. First arriving unit gives an accessment to the responding Chief on A7-16, then switch to Direct (non trunk) TAC direct C7-16) on the C bank on fireground.

So does that mean you have to be on scene to here the transmission when they switch to "C", in order to hear them [Line of Site?] ?
