Kent County is simulcast so the only scanner to "officially" properly receive the MPSCS is a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200.
I have the BCD436, live in Grand Rapids and it does just fine. I'm on the NE side of the City. I get most Kent County (wouldn't know if I'm missing anything), MSP and all GR. I also reach the counties of Ottawa, Montcalm and some Muskegon traffic. My scanner stays quite active. I may go with the SDS model next year, but for now very happy with activity using the Diamond RH77CA antenna. Good luck.

The more I read threads on the RR site, the more I realize I may need that SDS soon. Kent County will be done with their tower project and I believe that the SDS will then be needed to get the most out of my a radio to listen here. These forums are awesome, but two hours of reading/catching up this morning on the Michigan Radio Forum, confirmed I'll probably need the upgrade to the SDS.

I would suggest the sds100 current deal from zipscanners. Ordered last Thursday and received Saturday. Includes programming and antenna upgrade. The perfect scanner for simulcast systems like Ottawa and soon to be Kent.

Thank you. I was looking at them. How did you like the programming they provided?

It's a waste of money IMO, unless you don't have a computer. Basically they are copying stuff from the database that comes with the scanner, and pasting it into a new favorite list, and charging you money for that. You're better off scanning the database to start (once you've updated it), and learning to make your own favorite lists.

Good to know. If I do order I will let them do the 3 free and then do the rest. Thanks again - really appreciate your feedback

Uhg ...of course I need the most expensive one. Darn

Does anyone here in W Michigan have experience with the 436 simulcast?
Wondering how well it may work considering it is much cheaper than the SDS100.
I'm in Ottawa county and have a bcd996 p2 am I going to be screwed listening to Kent county? I am completely new with this whole lotta learning to do!

I live in Grand Rapids proper, not far from downtown. I’ve been able to receive Allegan and Ottawa pretty good on the GR tower.

When I’m mobile and closer to each county line, the reception is even better when I’m on each of the county’s simulcast towers.

I have old GRE PSR-500 & PSR-800. So far so good.
