I have seen over my 40 years as a Firefighter and Electronics Training putting a 7 amp battery on a car is asking for trouble.
The isolator allows the battery to stay charged and keep the devices connected to it operating but not feed back to the reset of the car.
By the way what professional training do you have?
What is the purpose of a battery isolator?
A battery isolator prevents a secondary battery from draining a primary battery. It also allows an alternator to charge multiple batteries.
How it works
- A battery isolator is usually placed between a starter battery and a secondary battery.
- When the engine is running, the isolator allows current to flow from the alternator to both batteries.
- When the engine is off, the isolator separates the batteries so the secondary battery can keep its charge.
Where it's used
- Battery isolators are often used in recreational vehicles, boats, airplanes, and large trucks.
- They're also used in vehicles with high-power car stereos and off-road vehicles.
Benefits
- Battery isolators help ensure the starting battery has enough power to start the engine.
- They protect the primary battery from being drained by the secondary battery.
- They allow an alternator to charge multiple batteries.
Fire-MAN. Did you actually read the product description and how they operate? Did you review your "How it works" section and then go back to the product brief?
Ummm. Are you asking for my educational background, resume', and references? 17+ years Technical Services Manager for a mission critical company on Florida's Space Coast? How's that work?
Sorry if my skills don't expand to chicken bar-b-que's and collecting loose change into a boot at busy intersections. Kudos if yours do.
Look. Up in the air, saving a kat. Faster than an agent with warrant bashing a door in. Capable of dousing a Tesla with a hose. Its Fire-Man!!
Yeah, okay. The dude asked for a solution to keep his radio running when he changes from accy. to on, and hitting start.
Not so sure import-car-meet-super-capacitors paralleled to the main main battery without any isolation is the hot ticket.
But there sure are a lot of tow behind trailers and such with a safety brake cable there to apply current to the electromagnetic brakes if an unscheduled rapid decoupling should occur.
And the battery in those battery boxes aren't that big. AND....they have considerably less ampere hour capacity than the starter battery in the vehicle it was attached to. With NO charge controller. And usually no battery disconnect, isolation device. Never saw a Fire-MAN responding to those. Could I get a couple breasts and drumsticks, and macaroni salad with that?
