Maybe someone up in the hills can answer this better. But I would suggest she looks at http://www.scannermaster.com. It's not local to Colorado but they have a good selection of scanners. If she can't decide on one type of scanner she or you could post here and the members of the Colorado forum will gladly tell her witch scanner works best with what she wants to listen too.

I have two uniden bc-350a scanners and to two radio shack pro 2067's that i would be willing part with for pretty cheap... would she be interested in either one of them... True i am not a store and there is no warranty, but they will be under $100.00 and they are just sitting here. Haven't been used in for ever...

Your sister might want to investigate a little before purchasing Glenwood Springs and Garfield County are DTRS now and most TG's are encrypted.

I bought my 396 from Ham Radio Outlet off Iliff in Denver. Kind of overpriced, but I got to play before I made a decision. They were very nice and helpful (if a bit overpriced) and I got to satisfy my (expensive) impulse to have one right now. :) Perhaps she could go in there and play and get one online.

I heard somewhere that HRO does not like to do scanner stuff much. I don't know where I have heard that, but it's something I have heard.

Nah. They'll sell you a scanner, no problem.
It's the ham stuff they're "protective" about.... like, "Why do you want this radio if you aren't licensed?" type of stuff. Which, BTW, hams appreciate.

I bought a PSR-500 there today, very friendly (they had quite a few in stock apparently).
