Ubbe is correct, the entire control/menu set for the radio is present on the remote head so the radio can be buried in the back someplace if needed. The right knob is the Menu button and the left functions as the Enter button. Pressing the Menu button (right knob) brings you into the radio menus and touching the screen brings up a keyboard.

So power is also remotely controlled? I think I saw this hinted at in a video or post (I don't recall which) but just looking to confirm as I think that was a question a few have asked.

That is one thing we are working on, at least for the x36 and SDS database radios where an impolite shutdown of the radio can occasionally cause SD-Card issues. On a 996 type radio it is not an issue.

can occasionally cause SD-Card issues.

Understood. I know I don't use recording so my SD card isn't being actively written to if I kill power to my SDS200 or 536. Of course, I know they write to the SD card if powered off, to save any menu/settings changes, etc. I guess a slightly delayed power off of the scanner body could be programmed so that when the RH200 is powered off, it stops any active recording and then powers off. Maybe that is the plan. Either way, sounds good.

Backlighting on the 200 series is pitiful. Especially compared to the portable (100) which is about twice as bright as the 200. Wonder what limitations they had in the 200's production that limited them to such an underpowered / low light display? And I don't need a GPS, bought the "bundles" years ago

Just asking...
You do know the display brightness on the 100/200 is adjustable...
Be it in Sentinel or thru the scanners menu...
What brightness percentage is your 200 set to?

Isn't dimmer in my experience. Either a faulty unit or you have the brightness set too low. Pressing the volume knob in will cycle through the preset levels, which are able to be selected in the Settings menu > Display

So will we be able to power on from the remote head as well then?

I tend to agree.
If anything, my SDS200 is brighter than my SDS100 even when both are set at 100% brightness.

I would have to agree with others... either your dimmer settings need some adjustment, or you may have a faulty scanner or display. My SDS200 display is more than adequate in a sunny room when set to 80% brightness.

In defense of @RRR, I believe that the reference was made about the backlighting of the keys, not the display. I too, have noticed that the backlighting on the keys for the 100 is much brighter than on the 200--and the percentage setting for the display doesn't seem to have much effect on the key backlighting--at least for the 200.

@RRR seems to be talking specifically about the display....

Wonder what limitations they had in the 200's production that limited them to such an underpowered / low light display?
