Does anyone in the group know were I can get an extra long programing/Power Cord for an SDS 100? I want to use the radio as a table top and use household electric in stead of battery power. I have tried two different Walmart stores with no luck ,and have had no luck finding one through Scanner Master.

Micro Center would probably have them if you want someplace ~local. I got a 10' a few years ago, one issue I had with the cable was that the scanner kept giving me a low voltage warning so you may need to get a beefy power brick as well.

Anker makes excellent cables, even at 10 ft., but they don't make USB Mini cables (at least not 10 ft. ones), which the SDS100 would need.

I would recommend to use a splitter cable adapter with separate data and power connectors at the other end of a long cable and then use a $15 adjustable power supply that can be set to something like 5,2 or 5,5 volt and you can then use any length and quality of cable to the scanner without running into a low USB power issue.

Amazon.com

You can always power the scanner from a second separate micro USB cable that then doesn't need any splitters.

I posted this same question in another group. One of my friends who is in the scanner club that I belong to in the Southwest and Miami Valley regions of Ohio recommended this product. He has worked in radio communications as his career and has been involved in the scanner radio and amateur radio hobby for years.

Monoprice USB-A to Mini-B 2.0 Cable - 5-Pin, 28/24AWG, Gold Plated, Black, 3ft - Monoprice.com ( https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=5447 )
monoprice.com ( https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=5447 )

Best value out there, available in various lengths. It’s also the only one I’ve found which reliably lets you charge and listen at the same time.

That link is for a 3 foot cable, You indicated previously you wanted something longer.

Monoprice cables are very good. I have a number of them, for various uses including HDMI. Good quality, lower price than many other overrated brands. Amazon carries nay of the Monoprice cables, or you can order direct from Mono.

When I measure my computers output voltage it is 4,8 volt and that sometimes requires me to turn off "charge while on" in the scanner. I have 4-5 USB chargers and two of them output 5,2 volt and using them I can use any of my cables at any length but with the others that output 5,0 or 4,9 it is much more sensitive what cable that will work. So it will be mostly the USB source voltage that will dictate what cable that can be used.

Scanner takes 0,7A while scanning, if not charging at the same time that would add another 0,5A.

I don't know why Uniden have set such a high voltage level for the USB warning that disables the scanner as all circuits except charging and audio amplifiers run on stabilized 3,3 volt. It is the same mystery when not allowing recording while running the scanner without a battery, when a SDS200 doesn't have a battery and runs on the same type of power adapter but 12v instead of 5v. It just doesn't make any sense.

Ubbe if I remember correctly UPMan said it had something to do with the charging in California. As we all know as voltage drops current goes up as does heat.
It was some law in California, I don't know if it's still active, that forbid charging while a device where powered on. Probably to prevent overheating and a potential risk of fire. It seems like a ridiculous law from a technical perspective so it has probably been removed.

But Upmans explanation of disabling recording without a battery in a portable scanner where the risk of file corruption if the 5V power where removed. But the same risk applies to a 12v powered scanner that doesn't have any battery inside.

When you click on the link it gives you the option of ordering it in a 3,6,10 or 15 Ft length. I ordered the 6 Ft length.
