DItto. Bought mine gently used back in 2019 for about $100 below retail
For me, it was a nice package deal.... No box, manual or original antenna, but included two new antennas (my Comet beat them!), external battery charger with extra battery, GPS unit (which I still have yet to use!)......AND all three pre-waterfall upgrades! ....For $700.... Problems? Nope. As I've been saying, pretty darn well satisfied with this! And now, I have to replace one of the two batteries (swelling issue just happened), but that's after 1 year, 3 months..... 🙃

After reading about the current sds100/200 scanners I finally decided to try one. What a big disappointment, this is the worst uniden scanner I have ever had going back to the bearcat Electra 3 that was my first. Returning this garbage as soon as I get return authorization. My Icom R6 runs circles around this thing.
I only got back into the scanner hobby, in 2016 after. Being out of it for nearly 30yrs.. Sure, Being out of it, for that long things have definitely changed. Like, Going from crystals, to P25(Simulcast). I definitely won't 'throw in the towel', on my SDS100. It will always be, a learning experience.

From everything I've read, I'd pass on an SDS unless it was a cheap hamfest or crackhead deal. Lousy audio fidelity on a $700 scanner? Several cheap Chinese radios I have have really good receive audio. Poor analog sensitivity is another. Swelling batteries and poor battery life-another. I use a 996p2 for p25 at home and it works great. I'm in rural Pa. so I listen to Centre County phase I and Penndot, that's it for p25 since everything is E anyway. And analog on the 996p2 is fine. For all else it's a 346xt or a CCR for on the go-my two counties are happily analog. And if a CCR gets dropped, lost or broken just go buy another. And the CCR runs rings around any scanner sens wise.

To my knowledge, no CCR can follow P25 trunking

This page: Centre County(PA)

Says that most 911 communications are on this system: Centre County(PA) P25 digital(Simulcast)

So, Your disdain for the SDS100/SDS200 is questionable.

As for PennDOT being 'e', or 'E', show the page where you saw that.

I both agree and disagree🫤.
I use my ccr’s for decent analog receive and they have some very good features so they can make up a part of anyone’s listening inventory at very reasonable cost, and the 996 is a wonderful scanner for non-simulcast area but I somewhat disagree on the sds units..yes the audio on the 100 is not good, probably the worst of any handhelds currently available, and we all know about other issues with these units. I sold mine awhile ago.
However, my 200 is overall one of the best units I have ever owned after it is tweaked. There is not another scanner (not including separate sdr’s) that can compare as to overall features.

How did you tweak your SDS200? What does that entail?

Here's an example. As a flooring contractor - work indoors, climate controlled, I often carry my SDS100 to the job site. It's better than rap music (my opinion). Today's location was approx 17 nautical mile from the nearest 700 mHz simulcast site. I could hear the vhf analog fire tones but no traffic. I had signal bars and DATA displayed on the screen but no audio. Knowing I was in range of the site I changed filter settings. After doing so, comms were coming clearly. Did not see RSSI values either way. I'm no whiz at this but reading these forums everyday and learning from previous search definately helped me a ton. Thanks everyone!
